We've all heard, "It Takes A Village To Raise A Child", but what do you do when you don't have a village of support around you? Families of Character can help as you study the virtues and discuss them together. Learn how you can organize and facilitate a small group: http://familiesofcharacter.com/smallgroups/

Here is an article from Legatus.org talking about the Families of Character program.  We would love for you to sample the course:

http://bit.ly/FOCFreeSample

The program works by having a couple focus on one virtue per month. Couples can work alone or in a small group. They watch a video which explains what the virtue is. Everyone is given a workbook to assess how their family is doing with that virtue and its two opposing vices. Participants then set goals to be worked on for the next 30 days.
“In the first chapter, you have to create a family mission statement, which allows you to communicate future goals and what you want your family to be like,” said Mercy Gutierrez, who lives in Denver. She and her husband Sergio have been taking Families of Character courses for seven years.

How To Be An Example of Joyfulness:
"I have a friend who is one of those people whose presence can light up a room and brings a sense of peace and joy to everyone she meets. She is one of those people who always has a smile on her face and is always looking at the glass as half full. A lot of people would say to me, “her happiness is just a façade. She is really probably struggling inside and thinking badly about everyone.” Or “don’t you ever get annoyed. Her joy is exhausting.” It was amazing how quickly people tore her down for one of her biggest character strengths. On the other hand, I found her joyfulness to be exhilarating, uplifting, and encouraging. I always left wanting to be a better person because of the profound peace and happiness she possessed. "

"Now, as a parent, I look forward to creating memories and forming traditions with my own children that also embody family, friends, and tradition. One of the traditions that I would like to incorporate into my family’s Independence Day celebration is the celebration of patriotism-honoring the values, morals and standards we hold as a nation."

We would love to hear about the traditions you are creating with your family!

Are you always late?  Are your children often tardy at school?  You aren't alone:

I’ll admit it! I am perpetually late to lots of things! Dropping the kids to school on time proves to be my family’s biggest challenge!  Though it is often only a 3 to 10 minute delay,  it is still not a great example for my children.  Their school sends a letter when a child has 6 or more “tardies” in a month. We received three this school year!

What plans have you made for a family summer vacation this year? To you have a plan to keep your children busy this summer?

Without this thought and effort, a vacation could quickly turn into a disaster– one of those trips you come home from only to wish for another vacation to get over the first vacation! You get my drift!

The return of long summer days can be productive and restful as well as fun for all–with a little planning and foresight. Being proactive and intentional can make a huge difference.
