The best part of being a volunteer is seeing all your hard work come to fruition. Today we were able to release a male and female (siblings) American Kestrel that were brought in after they fell from their nest during a storm. They were so fast, we only caught video of one flying away.

The Common Poorwill baby that came in last week is eating well and is full of personality. Just look at these shots taken by one of our volunteers.

This sleepy Western Screech owl is currently under care for a head injury. The screech owl is usually quite vocal and found in tree cavities. They can be as small as 7 inches and up to 10 inches if female. Similar sized owls include the Flammulated owl with brown eyes and the Eastern Screech Owl with grey feathers.

Have a baby bird or bird that is injured? Please bring the bird directly to us rather than calling or messaging. This is our busiest time of year and we get near constant phone calls and dropoffs. Unfortunately we are behind on returning voicemails.

Also, please recognize this is Jody's home and her personal phone that she uses. Our organization is 100% volunteer and donation based. We survive only by the grace of the people that help us and have done so for nearly 20 years.

Not only does Jody care for all birds at the rescue, she takes care of her family, the volunteers, her elderly mother and her blind/deaf brother in law. Jody is also still grieving from the loss of her daugher last November (https://www.gofundme.com/support-pamela-hesselbachers-family)

There are times when signs will be posted asking that the doorbell not be rung. In those cases, there are always directions stating where to go. (see example below)

We recognize that your time is valuable and you want to help fellow living creatures. We thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.

The American Kestrel is the smallest of the falcons. Currently we have several at the regab. These small birds get tossed about by high winds. While excellent hunters, they are also often prey to the larger raptors.

Rehabbing a screech owl, displaying what owls do so well. That head bobbing is an owls way of gaging distance by sound using their radial disc to channel sound into their ear holes. Built in GPS. And its fun to do.

Between March and June we get over 800 babies. If you find a baby bird or injured bird, please do not PM us, just bring the bird to the rescue. We spend all day taking in, feeding and taking care of the babies. Thank you for understanding.
