#2 | Goodbye

Let me close my eyes and
forget

all of the ways you loved me
held, melted, molded, made me feel
loved.

Let me close my eyes
and drink in your intoxicating smell for
the last time.

Let me close my eyes
and erase the sight of you
at dusk and dawn and every waking hour in between

that our love has marked in my life.

Please let me close my eyes
and bid farewell, reluctantly

Because to say goodbye to you
is to say goodbye to half of me.

Steak & Eggs
Esker Grove - Minneapolis, Minnesota

Located in the Walker Art Center in the Loring Park/Lowry Hill area of Minneapolis, Esker Grove is a great brunch stop. Great ambience, big windows, and of course, you're in an art museum. Plus, I enjoyed every bite of this delicious plate. Check it out!

#1 | Poetry

Empty my heart
and replace it with an icebox

In a grand canyon of virtue and remorse,
Lift your gaze so you see only me

Pick me, like a wildflower
in the astonishing but evanescent bloom
that comes after drought

Look upon me with adoring eyes
for the moment where your shirt flutters in the wind
and not one second longer

with the scented breeze
ever marked and lingering in a distant memory

leave me in that cool place
to slowly fade

Standing naked in front of a giant crowd

For much of my life, that's how I've felt about sharing my writing with others. Words can be so intimate and revealing. I've often felt too nervous and shy to share my short prose and poetry with others. But I'd like to change that!

In here, you will find some prose and poetry. Often combined with the imagery or music that inspired the writing. I would love your feedback so that I can grow and improve as writer. Do you have any writing to share? What do you think of my work? I would love to make more literary friends so say hi!

On life and making decisions

“I saw my life branching out before me like the green fig tree in the story. From the tip of every branch, like a fat purple fig, a wonderful future beckoned and winked. One fig was a husband and a happy home and children, and another fig was a famous poet and another fig was a brilliant professor, and another fig was Ee Gee, the amazing editor, and another fig was Europe and Africa and South America, and another fig was Constantin and Socrates and Attila and a pack of other lovers with queer names and offbeat professions, and another fig was an Olympic lady crew champion, and beyond and above these figs were many more figs I couldn't quite make out. I saw myself sitting in the crotch of this fig tree, starving to death, just because I couldn't make up my mind which of the figs I would choose. I wanted each and every one of them, but choosing one meant losing all the rest, and, as I sat there, unable to decide, the figs began to wrinkle and go black, and, one by one, they plopped to the ground at my feet.”

Who else is looking forward to the weekend? Bring on the brunch! This one at Sqirl in LA was quite satisfactory. Who said a decadent brunch couldn't be sort of healthy? :p
