Berliner Dom

An oldie: One of my first shots with my first DSLR in 2010. I found the three exposures of the Berlin Cathedral this evening in my archives. I had almost forgotten that they still existed. It was also one of my first HDR. But the HDR processing I did years ago doesn't satisfy me today anymore. So I re-processed it and got a more drama-looking sky and the building became brighter and clear. But the biggest advantage is that it does no longer look like a cartoon - a result of an exaggerated HDR process at that time. Other times, different moods.

Building New Universes: Dot Race
What do you do in a delirium when you're sick? You build new universes! A little fun with water, oil and lighting. More to follow. In the end I will publish the whole series on my website.

A little bit about the photo:
First: Yes, it's a photo! There is no photoshop manipulation. And it is not the result of a animation software. I started with a glass, filled it with water and some oil. Of course, on the first try it was too much oil. And you should not vigorously stir the broth. On the second try .... or it was possibly the sixth, I finally found the right mixture and method to form oil bubbles in the water. Great! But then it got really challenging: Finding the right setting and light sources for the desired lighting, mood and arrangement of the bubbles in the composition. It took several shots and nearly one hour to get the first images I wanted to have. But then it was a great fun to create new universes
Main light source was incoming sunlight and a second lamp shined on colored paper under the glas. Later I added a third light source: the lamp above our dining table. That was almost a coincidence. It created these circular spots on the oil bubbles generating a greater three-dimensional effect.
One tip at the end: Always carry a towel within easy reach to keep your camera and equipment free of any oily influences.

Introduction
Me here on Google+
I'm here on Google+ mainly because of the photography. I think that the best school to improve, is to get inspired by the work of others. But this is only one side of the medal. It is equally important, to publish your own photographs to get serious criticism for it. Photography on Google+ is a give and take. So you're invited to review my pictures critically - I can just learn from my mistakes. And I try the same thing with the people that I've added to my circles.

My rules
For my photography I have only two rules:
  1. Shoot only pictures that can be used as a desktop wallpaper.
  2. Don't publish rubbish. Bad images remain low.
I like
  • Architecture
  • Urban and industrial arts (Urbex)
I mostly do HDR and black and white photography.

What I don't like
I never had and will never have: affection for cat-photography!
I also don't like cartoonish HDR photographs.

My gear
  • Canon EOS 450D
  • Sigma 18-200mm F3,5-6,3 DC
  • Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS
  • Canon EF 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6 III
  • Lightroom 4

Remarks
People, who increasingly post Instagramm photos, photos from boredom (just because they feel compelled to post something today - shit remains shit), cat photos and GIFs, I throw out of my circles.

Get ready for an exciting tour. The stadium impresses with its size and its faithful ancient and simple design. For 1.50 EU (student) you can climb up the grandstand or be photographed for a keepsake on the podium. Also included in price: a small Olympic museum in which all Olympic torches of all times are kept. A "Hall of Flames", which you can reach via a tunnel. A visit takes 30 minutes to 1 hour maximum, thus it fits in every Athens city trip.

Best hotel for your trip to Athens. The Areos is one of the best hotels for your 1- to 2-week trip to Athens. You can expect an extremely friendly and helpful staff, modern equipment and clean rooms and the best WiFi- and LAN-connectivity I had in a hotel so far. The staff is eager to help you where it can, for example planing your daily trips in Athens and the surrounding area. And: The nearest metro station is only 5 minutes away (to walk). From there, you reach after two stations to the center of Athens around the acropolis.

Some tips Can't add much to what my predecessors have written about the fantastic and unique outlook and the breathtaking temples at the Acropolis. Therefore, from me a few tips: - as a student you can access for free (as in all museums of Athens). - the last bar/shop in front of the Acropolis sells no water, but only overpriced juices. Therefore: take enough drinks with you. Alternatively: on the premises of the Acropolis, there is a fresh-water fountain for free. - there is not only the Acropolis to visit. Down of the Acropolis there are the ruins of the dionysos-theaters. A visit is worthwhile and included in the ticket.

Royal in every way! I was here for a conference, which took place in the Hotel. Also stayed for a week in the hotel. You can expect an excellent service! The ambience is noble and the staff courteous, helping you there ever it is possible. Only the WiFi could be better. But this is compensated by the fantastic and unique view from the roof terrace overlooking the nocturnal illuminated Acropolis.
