Vote for QLD's Dinosaur Fossil Sites for the 7 Wonders of Australia: Once home to a robust population of dinosaurs and other Cretaceous-period denizens, Queensland is home to some of the most significant fossil deposits in the world. These range from expansive fossil fields to extensive curated collections of dinosaur fossils centralised in a number of key hubs dotted throughout the Queensland outback – Queensland’s Fossil Sites.

Chief among these is the Riversleigh Fossil Field – a World Heritage-listed site regarded by experts as one of the 10 most important of its kind in the world, with renowned documentarian David Attenborough going as far as ranking them amongst the top four. Fossils here date back as many as 30 million years ago and provide a remarkably well-preserved picture of the evolution of Australian mammals over the course of this period.

The site lies in the south-eastern portion of QLD’s Boodjamulla (or Lawn Hill) National Park and is the only section of the site available for public visits. Preserved in limestone, ancestors of some of Australia’s best-known species can be seen here – including the forefathers of the likes of kangaroos, wombats, koalas and a number of other icons.

7wonders.experienceoz.com.au/destination/the-daintree-rainforest

Vote for the Daintree Rainforest, QLD for the 7 Wonders of Australia: Ahe traveller-friendly and publicly-accessible section of the greater Wet Tropics World Heritage Area, the Daintree Rainforest is an incredible showcase of biodiversity that is believed to date back to over 130 million years ago.

It’s not only the largest continuous area of tropical rainforest on the Australian continent; it also combines with the Great Barrier Reef to be the only place on Earth where two World Heritage sites meet, making for a wonderful land-and-sea blend of Queensland’s iconic landscapes. This is a prehistoric land that remains largely the same as it has for aeons, and few environments in the country offer the chance to step back in time in such an immersive fashion.

7wonders.experienceoz.com.au/destination/cradle-mountain

Vote for Cradle Mountain, TAS for the 7 Wonders of Australia: The flagship attraction of its namesake Cradle Mountain–Lake St Clair National Park – with its ancient rainforests and alpine heaths and part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area – Cradle Mountain‘s distinctive shape and ease of access have combined to make it one of Tasmania’s premier tourist attractions. Easily reachable from Launceston, this is a pristine slice of Tasmania that offers one of its most iconic panoramas along with incredibly fresh air.

Its encompassing national park is one of the state’s most special natural sites – one where ancient pines fringe glacial lakes, and icy streams cascade down rugged rock faces. It’s incredibly wildlife-rich, as well, and not uncommon for visitors to encounter multiple roving wombats foraging amongst the grassland along the roadside on the way in.

7wonders.experienceoz.com.au/destination/cape-le-grand-national-park

Vote for Cape Le Grand National Park, WA for the 7 Wonders of Australia: Perhaps Australia’s most stunning coastal national park, Cape Le Grand on the southern coast of Western Australia shatters the typical “bushwalk and greenery” illusion most Aussies may initially hold when hearing the term. An ancient, largely granite landscape, Cape Le Grand National Park is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in Australia that boast some of the whitest sand in the country.

The park is home to a number of pristine and visually impressive coastal and marine environments, with its coastal cliffs and rocky headlands forming a wonderful contrast to its vivid turquoise waters. Step slightly inland, and a helping of iconic Australian wildlife such as grey kangaroos and pygmy possums can be found alongside its rivers and creeks.

This portion of WA is a land where sea meets bush in spectacular fashion, with a number of secluded and sheltered bays featuring pristine sands sitting alongside some truly dazzling water. Most famous of these is the picturesque Lucky Bay – physically beautiful, it’s a spot where kangaroos on the beach aren’t just part of a staged promo shoot; they’re tame and approachable, and can be seen lazing in the sun throughout the year.

Cast your vote for Cape Le Grand National Park online at the link below, text/SMS the code CAPE to 19 719 777, or vote via Instagram using the hashtags #7wondersofaustralia and #capelegrand for the chance to win one of 7 epic trips to visit your voted Wonder of Australia!

7wonders.experienceoz.com.au/destination/blue-mountains

Vote for The Blue Mountains/Three Sisters, NSW for the 7 Wonders of Australia: A diverse and dazzling concentration of natural attractions within easy reach of Australia’s largest city, the Blue Mountains National Park is a wonderful embodiment of raw Australian bush and authentic landscapes. Annually one of the country’s most-visited national parks due to both its natural offerings and its proximity to Sydney, the park is named for its signature mist of blue oil exuded by the thousands of eucalypt trees which blanket much of its surface.

It’s a large and diverse park which serves multiple purposes and is host to numerous precious contents, from a wide array of plant and animal species to important indigenous cultural sites, to some of the country’s most recognisable geographical formations.

Chief among these are the Three Sisters; an iconic rock formation outside the town of Katoomba, the trio of peaks were formed by erosion over the course of hundreds of thousands of years. Named after an indigenous saga detailing three sisters who were turned to stone, the peaks are the most highly-visited site in the Blue Mountains and draw hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.

Cast your vote for the Blue Mountains online at the link above, text/SMS the code BLUEMOUNTAINS to 19 719 777, or vote via Instagram using the hashtags #7wondersofaustralia and #bluemountains for the chance to win one of 7 epic trips to visit your voted Wonder of Australia!
