Confirming the rumours today, Nokia announced an Android powered range of devices at Mobile World Congress called the Nokia X family (with the 89 Euro Nokia X going on sale immediately). The release of the handset should give us some indications on Microsoft's strategy around mobile service and cloud computing.

While Microsoft's Surface tablets are getting more use per device in the business world, their share of the market is still incredibly low. Recent numbers from Chita show both the scale of the problem that Microsoft has to address, but also illustrate the strength of Redmond's own hardware.

When I look at the chart I see that Surface owners understand their device more as a working-tool whilst other tablets seem to manage "work-life-balance" a bit better. Don't get me wrong, I like the Surface but there still is a long way to go, IMHO.

There's going to be a lot of discussion over the phenomenon of Flappy Bird over the next few weeks, but the long-term winner of the Flappy Bird story is clear. The biggest beneficiary of the feathered frenzy will be Google's AdSense for mobile.

Swrve has released their first 'Mobile Games Monetization Report', looking at the freemium model of income in mobile gaming. While the numbers and conversion rates seem low, they match up closely with the historical data for the shareware model that has been the mainstay of mobile and indie gaming for over twenty years. Freemium is the new name, but the business model remains the same.

Staggering their announcements at Mobile World Congress, Samsung today announced the Samsung Gear 2 and Gear Neo smartwatches. They are expected to hit the stores in April, but will they be damaged by Samsung’s earlier rush to release the Galaxy Gear smartwatch last year?

Millions of songs on Spotify have never received a single play. Forgotify has taken on the role of King Canute and is attempting to surface this undiscovered country of music.

I want to say something less hipster than "Gonzo 2.0", but cooler than "bumming off the internet for a living"...
