JSON-LD and Web Components for easier web development

For the past few months, a bunch of us (especially fellow conspirators  +Ewa Gasperowicz and +Mano Marks) have been figuring out how two very useful technologies, JSON-LD and Web Components, can work together to simplify front-end web development in a way that works nicely with existing backends. Yes it's that cool and promising.

It's all in this blog post, which has links to more detailed docs and code examples:

http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2015/03/easier-website-development-with-web.html

And if you've never heard of Web Components or need to brush up on this nascent technology (and if you work on anything web related, this is a friendly heads-up about the future of web development ;) ), start with this Google I/O 2013 talk:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqULJBBEVQE

Now, fellow geeks, let's, um, geek out together.

Sure, that should work as well, in an even more declarative way. This said, you'd need to encode in the component additional assumptions about the json-ld internal structure - e.g. in the article's example I'm passing in only "@graph" property and not the full json-ld snippet. IMO declarative approach is more restrictive, but can be valuable for some use cases, while programmatic approach would suit other ones.

In the meanwhile, in the JavaScript MVC world, we have our own Game of Thrones

http://bit.ly/113lACl

Althought in stackoverflow, Backbone.js number of followers and questions are double than AngularJS ones.

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6548826/angular-js-vs-backbone-js

Who has the dragons? Who has the unicorns ?

#backbonejs    #angularjs   #knockoutjs   #emberjs   #canjs

The good thing: This is not a battle, choose the right tool for the job =)

Sure some other search engines have 5x the malware, but what about email uptime? The data look pretty good, actually: "for every 1 minute of Gmail downtime, [a competing email solution] is down for 103 minutes!"

From the article:
"Google Inc. (GOOG), operator of the world’s largest search engine, is challenging a demand by the U.S. government for private user information in a national security probe, according to a court filing.

It “appears” to be the first time a major communications company is pushing back after getting a so-called National Security Letter, said the Electronic Frontier Foundation, an Internet privacy group. The challenge comes three weeks after a federal judge in San Francisco ruled that NSLs, which are issued without a warrant, are unconstitutional."
