Tor & Forge ebooks will be DRM-free!

It is with cautious optimism that I predict the eventual end of the worthlessness that is DRM on ebooks. Here's how Tom Doherty feels about it:

"DRM is a constant annoyance to [our readers]. It prevents them from using legitimately-purchased e-books in perfectly legal ways, like moving them from one kind of e-reader to another."

Bold move, Tor. Let's hope others quickly follow suit!

Big publishers created the lock-in to the Kindle ecosystem by requiring DRM (and it didn't matter which one became dominant, any of them would have had DRM lock-in.) Had ebooks been DRM free all along, you could have been buying from any store regardless of device used.

"Gosh, I really hate this prison cell I built brick by brick and locked myself into."

Oh man! I can get my Jim Butcher fix hassle free.
