Quick vid I shot on set about the Kong Frog we're using with our easyrig. I highly recommend every AC add it to their kit

Watch me show how the Kong Frog carabiner helps us shoot faster with the EasyRig on the set of Assassinaut.

This is a much better, faster solution to getting the camera up on an EasyRig than the default handle!

Purchase the Kong Frog Carabiner here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003EM6Y5Q/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B003EM6Y5Q&linkCode=as2&tag=theblaandblu-20&linkId=2AFHFLDX2S7AQZ7B

More info on using it with the EasyRig in this blog post: http://www.theblackandblue.com/2015/07/15/assassinaut-movie-day-5/

Excited to be working on this film and getting back into writing for +The Black and Blue

The AC's battlefield is behind-the-lens. As I prep to step onto that front, I want you to join me as I post about working on the feature film "Assassinaut" for the next six weeks

Too often you get sucked in by the goal of perfection and, to make excellent work, at some point, you have to be practical about that goal.

I'm not normally one to get sucked into camera tests, but Art Adams' explanation of how ARRI Alexa separates color saturation and luminance to pursue a film aesthetic is really fascinating.

Loved this post.

Each scene in a well-crafted film has dozens of examples of how cinematography can draw you further into a story. All you have to do is pay attention and study those frames to become a better cinematographer.

What a way to start the week

On a long shoot like this, not everyday is going to be easy or fun, but the hard days can still be rewarding in their own right, even if it's simply because you make it to the end.: http://www.theblackandblue.com/2015/07/14/assassinaut-movie-day-4/

One of those posts that got written in a single day

Any camera assistant worth their salt will pull focus using nothing more than a few measurements, their eyes, and a follow focus. But it's become increasingly common to indulge in the bad habit of looking at a monitor – instead of a subject – when pulling focus. So why is that a bad habit?

Two things hard to get a handle on in the film industry are how much you'll make and where the jobs are. Well, thanks to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, we can find the average wage of a camera operator, where the most jobs are, and how much the industry is projected to grow.

This post about Haskell Wexler's documentary "Who Needs Sleep" has been updated with a letter from Haskell Wexler himself. It was kind of him to get in touch and provide more context to the film!

I've had to put up with a few production personnel who think being an AC is different from what I think it is. That causes friction and inspired this post.

As a camera assistant, you've probably had to explain what you do to a family member, but have you ever had to explain it to other crew? Sometimes there's a disconnect between what you're asked to do and what you're trained to do.
