Google's doing a custom doodle for specific searches now? I found Hanukkah & Christmas. I wonder what other searches they're tweaking.

So I reviewed Dungeons & Dragons fifth edition and they've kept about 75% of it the same. The 25% that is different has some parts that are better and some parts that are worse, but in the end it comes out even.
I conclude that 5th edition is not improved enough for me to divest myself from 3rd edition.

Found an odd mismatch in organic search vs. Google Maps.
I was running a search for a client to get some spot check data on ranking. In the process I noticed that the local block in the organic results did not match the Google Maps local results. Organic Local Block I ran a search for dentist cosmetic and the organic with the local block returned …

I miss Joe Strummer, we all do. He was an inspiration for people to look outside themselves. I hope we all can.

Cute small library in the same building as the Hammond City Hall. It looks like a house, but it is clearly marked. The main floor is filled with books. They have a small table of computers with Internet access and they have WiFi available for everyone else. They were nice enough to let me work remotely till they closed at 5pm. There is a small playground outside and a field for picnics.

It's a McDonalds. They do not have a play area, nor are they easy to access from the highway, but they do have WiFi.

We visited this park on 03/24/2015. It has running water and flushing toilet, but the real feature is the beach. At low tide there is a large tidal flat accessible by the run down boat ramp near the entrance. Our kids had a ball playing on the flats as the tide slowly rolled in. The water was around 6 inches deep.

We took four kids aged 7-13. We wandered the museum for about 2 hours. I loved the beautiful hand-made models of ships. The kids loved the displayed ship parts they were allowed to touch. There is a lot of good history for readers of plaques. After the museum we went outside and toured the coast guard boat they have on display (no extra cost). We couldn't see the other two because they were active duty coast guard boats.

The main building/museum is impressive. They have a lot to look at and interact with (try on clothes, two theaters, etc.). There is a short walk to the fort replica, natural springs and canoe landing. We paid for two adults (kids under 14 were free). There is also a 6-mile fort to coast walk (ain't nobody got time for dat). We were staying nearby at Fort Stevens state park in a Yurt.

We stayed in a Yurt for 2 nights during spring break. The beaches are on the ocean side as well as the river side (no waves) and they were nearly empty. The shipwreck is nifty (nothing special), the jetty overlook was very cool (windy w/big waves), The main fort area is very cool with a lot to see: Building Foundations, old earthwork fort, WWII gun emplacements & battlements, plenty of photo ops. The old fellow in the museum is knowledgeable and rather nice. Battery Russel is similar to the main fort. The Yurts have electricity, a heater, a full/twin bunk, full futon, table, and 2 chairs. Try to get a lower numbered yurt if you don't want a long walk to the restroom.

Don't let the front of house confuse you. They have a bar, brick oven pizzeria, banquet hall and a fine dining restaurant all on the first floor (not sure what's upstairs). We took the kids for lunch in the restaurant. They seated us with a perfect view of the entire waterfront. The waiter was somewhat non-engaging. We had many types of seafood: Clam chowder (truly amazing!), crab mac-n-cheese (delicious), ahi tuna (meh), steamed clams (good), pork belly burger (very good) and personal cheese pizzas for the litle'uns (not very good). For two adults and four kids it came to about $20/person (no alcohol). Worth the experience.
