Hailing from the great state of Indiana…the state that produced such musical geniuses as Michael Jackson, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, Axl Rose and Freddie Hubbard, DJ Stylistic, born Evan Black, was raised in Indianapolis and is determined to continue the tradition of musically putting Indiana on the map. Son of singer/song writer Tony Black, lead singer of popular funk band Revolution Compared To What and mastermind of the 1970’s hits “Huh” and “Go To Work” (currently available on the Funky 16 Corners compilation album distributed by Stones Throw Records), DJ Stylistic was influenced by music at a very early age. By age six, Stylistic knew how to operate recording equipment from years of sitting in the studio observing his father, at age ten he received his first turntables and by age seventeen, he was rubbing shoulders with the likes of Madlib and Peanut Butter Wolf while producing his own music.
Stylistic launched his DJ career under the wing of fellow DJ’s MetroGnomeTop Speed and quickly landed a resident gig spinning at the largest nightclub in Indianapolis’ popular entertainment district of Broad Ripple Village, Tru. Currently, Stylistic continues to spin at Truand at multiple venues throughout Indianapolis, Chicago and New York City.
Heavily influenced by his mentors and as well as DJ heavyweights Jazzy Jeff, Roc Raidaand DJ Craze, Stylistic effortlessly fuses Hip Hop, Jazz, Soul, Funk, House and Techno to create his signature sound.
Stylistic graduated from Broad Ripple High School, continued his education
at Vincennes University and remains a constant student of the art and
science of moving the crowd.
