What does a day in the life of ISS-based ESA astronaut Thomas Pesquet look like? Here's a breakdown of his daily routine. #Proxima
Tweet Thomas Pesquet is on the International Space Station for six months for his Proxima mission. His programme is foremost science-based. But how does he spend his days? What follows is an overview of an astronaut’s typical day. There is indeed a “typical day” for an astronaut on the International Space Station! Far from spending all his time observing the magnificent spectacle that is Earth seen from the Cupola, Thomas Pesquet follows a well-d...

On 14 January 2005, at 13:34 CET (12:34 UTC), ESA's #Huygens probe entered the history books by descending to the surface of #Titan, Saturn's largest moon, having hitched a seven-year ride with NASA's #Cassini spacecraft. This was humanity's first successful attempt to land a probe on another world in the outer Solar System. We present 10 important results from the pioneering mission.

#ICYMI  ESA astronaut Thomas Pesquet completed his first #spacewalk last Friday together with NASA astronaut Shane Kimbrough. The duo spent five hours and 58 minutes outside the #ISS to complete a battery upgrade to the outpost’s power system.

The main task was to replace nickel-hydrogen batteries that store electricity from the Station’s solar panels with newer lithium-ion batteries that arrived recently aboard Japan’s cargo vessel. Thomas and Shane’s speed allowed them to perform a number of extra tasks once they had installed the batteries.

#SpaceScience image of the week is this montage of 366 images showing our Sun through the eyes of ESA’s #Proba2 satellite, as seen each day in 2016. The satellite’s SWAP camera works at extreme ultraviolet wavelengths to capture the hot turbulent atmosphere of the Sun, known as the solar #corona.

Each image was created from 30 separate images centred on 01:00 GMT each day, which were processed to enhance the features extending from the solar disc.

Today's #spacewalk outside the International Space Station concluded after 5 hours and 58 minutes. The spacewalkers, ESA astronaut Thomas Pesquet and +NASA NASA astronaut Shane Kimbrough completed all their tasks, as well as 6 extra tasks. At the end of the spacewalk, ESA astronaut +Luca Parmitano, who was acting as capcom, guiding Thomas and Shane through their tasks, said: "Thank you for your hard work. It has been a privilege".

Congratulations to all involved, in space and on Earth.

This week, ESA deep-space radio dishes on two continents are listening for signals from the international #Cassini spacecraft, now on its final tour of #Saturn.

ESA’s sensitive tracking antennas at New Norcia, Western Australia, and Malargüe, Argentina, are being called in to help with crucial observations during Cassini’s last months in orbit, dubbed the ‘Grand Finale’.
