The EU is facing an influx of immigrants from Africa and the Middle East and the Schengen Area is coming apart at the seams. Alexis Tsipras had to count on votes from the opposition to get the second package passed in the Greek Parliament. Another vote on a third package is to be held in the first week of August. Reforms on farmer’s taxes and pensions were postponed without objections from creditor's side. Asked whether the reforms on the pension system should not have been taken place already, EU Commissioner Pierre Moscovici avoided to answer the question directly. We provide his answer to this tricky question as audio quote.
The members of the Greek parliament have passed a second package of measures to reform the judiciary and the banking system. Reforms on farmer's taxes and pensions were postponed without objections from the creditors side. They should be voted on at the beginning of August. TTIP: Malmström explains EU Commission’s point of view
Among the most discussed projects in Brussels is the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). Will the free trade treaty between the United States and the EU boost the GDP of a Europe with weak economic growth? The quota scheme was supposed to be a relief for the frontline countries like Italy and Greece, which have called for help to face the massive flow of refugees crossing the Mediterranean. But in fact, this has not been the case and again a lack of solidarity has been highlighted within the EU.

Watch our 'U Talking to Me' debate with Shada Islam of Friends of Europe & Pieter Cleppe of the Open European on our website: http://euranetplus-inside.eu/europes-controversial-approach-to-deal-with-migrants/
The European interior ministers failed on July 20 to agree on how to relocate 40,000 refugees who arrived in Italy and Greece. So far only the redistribution of about 32,000 people has been settled. The behavior of some EU countries shows a lack of solidarity not only within Europe, but also with the rest of…

Germany plans to reintroduce data retention. Only the EU can prevent further steps in this direction. For this reason the association Digitale Gesellschaft (Digital Society) wrote a letter to the European Commission. It wants the Commission to intervene.

One audio report of our German member.
The issue concerns us all - but not everybody is interested. Germany plans to reintroduce data retention. A political majority in favour of this plan is safe in Germany - thus only the EU can prevent further steps in this direction. For this reason the association "Digitale Gesellschaft" (Digital Society) wrote a letter to the European…
