Bulgarian business protests against power price hike - Several hundred Bulgarian companies, supported by trade unions, staged on Wednesday (29 July) new rallies in capital Sofia and across the Balkan country to protest against a planned increase in electricity prices. The energy regulator plans to increase power rates for industrial consumers by up to 20% from 1 August in an effort to cut huge deficits in the inefficient energy sector.

German regulator orders Facebook to allow pseudonyms - Facebook may not prevent its users from using fake names, a German privacy watchdog said on Tuesday (28 July), in the latest privacy setback for the US company in Europe. The Hamburg data protection authority, which is responsible for policing Facebook in Germany, said the social network firm could not unilaterally change users' chosen usernames to their real names, nor could it ask them for official ID.

Man dies as 1000s of migrants storm Channel Tunnel - More than 2,000 migrants tried to enter the Channel Tunnel in an attempt to reach Britain from France, French authorities said on Tuesday (28 July) before a Sudanese man was killed overnight in a second storming of the Tunnel. Six migrants were injured in what was the biggest incursion effort in the last few weeks at the tunnel entrance near Calais, on the night between Monday and Tuesday, a local official said.
