Interesting
thought provoking
On Tuesday I wrote about why I think Google should acquire Dropbox. Making a statement like that, no matter what arguments I can marshal in its defense, is bound to raise some eyebrows. Over the past 24 hours I’ve received some excellent feedback from Slate’s readers. Some of it has...

Seeing as 95%+ android phone can't use the new Google Phone Camera, I am going to test drive some of these :-)
Disclaimer: Yahoo Tech and Flickr are both owned by Yahoo, so we won’t be including Flickr’s fine Android camera app in this list. Google recently launched its Camera app in the Play store. The app, previously exclusive to Nexus and Google Play smartphones and tablets, finally brings the unadulterated Google take on camera software to Samsung, HTC, and LG owners. But there’s one problem with this slick new app: Google Camera in the Play store ...

Download Over 250 Free Art Books From the Getty Museum - Open Culture

' ... Getty Publications just announced the launch of its Virtual Library, where readers can freely browse and download over 250 art books from the publisher’s backlist catalogue.  The Virtual Library consists of texts associated with several Getty institutions. Readers can view extensively researched exhibition catalogues from the J. Paul Getty Museum, including Paul Cézanne’s late-life watercolours, when the painter raised the still life to a high art (Cézanne in the Studio: Still Life in Watercolors, 2004), as well as the woefully underappreciated Flemish illustrations of the 15th and 16th centuries (Illuminating the Renaissance: The Triumph of Flemish Manuscript, 2003). The collection also contains detailed treatises on art conservation from the Getty Conservation Institute, and scholarly works from the Getty Research Institute, both of which include a multitude of books on specialized topics. ... Newsreel archive British Pathé has uploaded its entire collection of 85,000 historic films, in high resolution, to its YouTube channel.

This unprecedented release of vintage news reports and cinemagazines is part of a drive to make the archive more accessible to viewers all over the world.

“Our hope is that everyone, everywhere who has a computer will see these films and enjoy them,” says Alastair White, General Manager of British Pathé. “This archive is a treasure trove unrivalled in historical and cultural significance that should never be forgotten. Uploading the films to YouTube seemed like the best way to make sure of that.”

British Pathé was once a dominant feature of the British cinema experience, renowned for first-class reporting and an informative yet uniquely entertaining style. It is now considered to be the finest newsreel archive in existence. Spanning the years from 1896 to 1976, the collection includes footage – not only from Britain, but from around the globe – ofmajor events, famous faces, fashion trends, travel, sport and culture. The archive is particularly strong in its coverage of the First and Second World Wars.

Alastair White continues: “Whether you’re looking for coverage of the Royal Family, the Titanic, the destruction of the Hindenburg, or quirky stories about British pastimes, it’ll be there on our channel. You can lose yourself for hours.”

This project is being managed by German company Mediakraft, which has been responsible for numerous past YouTube successes. The company will be creating new content using British Pathé material, in English and in foreign languages.

You can view and share films from this invaluable resource here: http://www.youtube.com/britishpathe

well, alright then. you know where you can find me.
