How much would it cost to turn that plastic bag or styrofoam tray back into the earth it was made from? The cost of making it has been built into the product that came in it, but not the cost of its reclamation. That cost is passed on to the environment where it is not monetized, because doing otherwise would probably price it right out of everybody's budget.
Could we create a zero sum environment and retain all this technology we've come to depend on?
The remnants of what we used to enjoy, we now have to go around. Our window of opportunity to repair the damage we've done is closing. Soon we'll be living some science fiction horror from a comic book we read as a kid. Even a dog knows enough not to defecate in his dinner bowl. When are we gonna learn?
