The EU has worked so hard to maintain the free movement of people, goods, etc. within its borders that we’ve grown used to standardized process and less hassle. I think everybody prefers having a common code so that the same language is spoken, so to say. I definitely see Brexit as a step back and allegedly some part of the UK agrees. Maybe this will serve as a signal that some rules should be altered or tolerance should be taught.
