The team over at http://peek.usertesting.com/ has been critical in my site's latest redesign.

I would highly recommend anyone use them to test their site's usability for free.

I find myself using this everyday. It's list of packages has absolutely everything I need.

Really had fun at #LAhacks hackathon. It was nice to see Sean Rad, CEO of Tinder, actively participating.

I always make sure to use Google's PageSpeed, but this will really come in handy to see the user experience on slower connections.

Grunt task for simulating slow connections: https://github.com/tjgq/grunt-throttle & the module it uses: https://github.com/tjgq/node-stream-throttle

I thought it was worth a share so you don't waste your time like I did. The document mode emulation feature in the internet explorer developer tools does NOT trigger html conditional comments.

Bug: http://connect.microsoft.com/IE/feedback/details/806767/conditional-comments-do-not-work-when-emulating-document-modes-via-f12-developer-tools#

My team's LA Hacks hackathon project. This project was made in 36 hours.

Cloud NES is a website that allows you to play many classic NES games with your keyboard, or with our app on any iOS device. We also support multiplayer, so users with our app can sync their app with our web page and start playing together.

How it works:

When a user visits the page, they are given a unique key. They simply enter that unique key into their controller/app, which then syncs up that web page with their phone controller.

Development:

The webpage uses HTML5 web sockets to communicate with the server. My C# server is using the Alchemy Websockets library for the web socket server, and then a native socket implementation for communicating with the controller.

If you're going the mobile app route for your site, make sure to check out Ratchet, from the creators of Bootstrap.
