Lollipop's lockscreen feels like a total mess to me. I'm wearing Android Wear, and you know it. Why am I shown an unchangable giant clock? I have a watch on! Why do I have to mess around with a crappy MediaStyle notification for Spotify, instead of using their much-more-tappable lockscreen widget? Why can't I have my DashClock Widget back so I can see things I care about?

The interactions feel so wrong, and I really loved 4.4's lockscreen, and I would love to have it back. The only thing Lollipop has that I love is Smart Lock. Nothing else makes me happy I took the OTA update.

General Android Collectible Talk  -

Had an antenna snap on my El Poderoso from H&V Series 1. Anyone know how much I can expect to pay to replace him, if I decide to indulge my collector habit?

I think I'm less impressed with Inbox than most people. I had a very nicely tuned Gmail workflow (which thankfully still exists!) and Inbox completely shatters that workflow with Bundling. I've turned Bundling off for now, and I think I can see a way forward where my flow gets more efficient than it was with Gmail, but I'm just not certain it passes the xkcd test of "how much time should you spend automating?"

After using it for 30secs I'm equally unimpressed.

I didn't know +Dapp Ollone was a craft brewer.
The case of the missing Count Chocula cereal boxes was solved Friday, when a craft brewer admitted to buying them to brew in a small-batch beer.

He'd better share.  I only got one box this season.

Giving a talk on Android to UD students soon; anyone have interesting API suggestions that are open, so I don't need to have students register for a key just to play along while I demo?

I think you can get information about github projects with a REST api without auth. This is the example API used for the retrofit examples.

(Possible) Sneak Preview: Ever since I read Mike Bostock's "Visualizing Algorithms" [http://bost.ocks.org/mike/algorithms/], I've been kicking around the idea of a Voronoi Diagram generator for images that could be used to create wallpaper. I finally got around to fully implementing the demo flow for myself, and I'm pretty happy overall. Right now I'm just doing uniform random sampling; I need to implement some other samplers, and clean up the UI/UX. Does this look like something people would use down the road, if I release it? Pay for?

Wow. Voronoi diagrams. That takes me back - used those to help define transit station "areas of influence" back when I was writing my dissertation!

Trying to use some Renderscript in order to play with Picasso Transformations today, I discovered a bit of nastiness - despite the Renderscript documentation saying "We strongly recommend using the Support Library APIs for accessing RenderScript because they provide a wider range of device compatibility," the documentation also says three paragraphs later that "Use of Support Library RenderScript APIs is not currently supported with Android Studio or Gradle-based builds."

I'm a little bit stunned. "We strongly recommend you use these APIs that are supported in neither the 1.0 release of the IDE we have created, nor the new build system that is meant to be the best"? Completely bizarre.

It is supported in Gradle, just outdated documentation - Muzei uses support renderscript to great effect: http://stackoverflow.com/a/22976675/1676363

Things I miss from Gmail while I'm trying Inbox:
* A convenient Trash button
* Images hidden by default
* Priority Inbox
* Things I can make use of in the margins
* Any sort of power-user settings at all

Kinda hate that. Low Priority is not how I want to treat things I haven't spam-blocked out of existence. I just want to see them after I deal with important things.

UPDATE: in order for the support Toolbar to work, you must use Theme.AppCompat, otherwise it won't display properly.

I think appcompat-v7 21.0.0 might be a little half-baked. The top is the standard Toolbar from 21, the bottom is a support-v7 Toolbar. They both receive identical setNavigationIcon() and inflateMenu() calls. Sigh. Off to file a bug.

As a side note, I'm also sad to see that the L-preview behavior of allowing menu buttons to be centered in an arbitrarily sized Toolbar is gone now.

I make a point of stopping in here every trip to San Francisco. I love their take on Margherita pizza, and it was absolutely worth a 2 mile trek on foot to get some on California Street.

Fantastic Italian food served incredibly fast. Really good chicken parmigiano, superb baked rigatoni. I'm writing this review primarily so that Google Now will remind me where this place is next time I'm in Baltimore!

Unbelievable food at a less than unbelievable price. Their raclette for two is pricey but SO good. Their chocolate fondue is outrageous. Be prepared to spend a lot, but then be prepared to love the food.
