Check out this 3D printed geodesic dome you can make with just some printed hubs and bar straws #3dprinting
A few months ago I had a great time building a couple of Geodesic Domes with the team at SketchUp. These were fun to design, fabricate and even more fun to build with a great group of people. You can read all about it here. I've been finding that when I try to explain how one of these geodomes work, that it's best to have one. I decided to 3D print one. I created the hubs in SketchUp and printed them on a MakerBot. I used black bar s...

Visualizer now supports layer colors in SketchUp . Learn how to use this powerful feature in our latest blog post - https://getvisualizer.com/blog/color-by-layer
A hidden gem in the Visualizer 1.1 Update is support for SketchUp's Color by Layer feature. The official docs might seem a bit dry, but a let us demonstrate with a few simple pictures...

Check out my post on +Visualizer for +SketchUp This i something I've been fooling with for a while and I really like it! +SketchThis.NET
Visualizer for Sketchup is one of the newest render programs to come to Sketchup. If you've ever looked at rendering programs for Sketchup, you'll know there are a lot. Visualizer isn't going to win as the renderer for the next Avatar, but it certainly wins for being the easiest, most fun, and fastest I've used, by a lot. Once it's installed, all you do is is just start it up, frame your shot by moving around in Sketchup, and let it ...

Here is a video and post about the geodesic domes I fabricated and then built with the +SketchUp team at +Make: These were so much fun to build. I'll be posting build instructions in the coming weeks.
Just a few weeks ago I had the privilege of attending Maker Faire once again with the Sketchup team. For those of you that remember, last year we built a Wikihouse. This year we were a little pressed for time, so rather than a big team of fabricators, fabrication fell on myself. We wanted to make something that was impressive, but also light and fast to build. PVC geodesic domes fit the bill. They are very cool looking, incredibly st...

I decided to try my hand at something a little differnet using the Handibot. I wanted to make a shelf system, and decided to use the Handibot to make pockets and slots for the 2x4s so I could assemble them like a puzzle.

Your 3D-printed Christmas ornament could end up in the White House
It's the day after Halloween, and that means it's time to throw out those pumpkins and start preparing for Christmas. The White House is wasting no time — it's figuring out which ornaments it's...

Last month, we built two geodesic domes out of PVC pipe at World Maker Faire. Why? Well, why not?

Get the full scoop on our geodesic project and learn how to build your own geodome here on the SketchUpdate blog: http://goo.gl/Fq0I7W

Check out this Ray Ban case I made using my Handibot!
So the other day I got a nice pair of Ray Ban glasses for a very special person in my life. Since they were a gift, I decided to wrap them up. At first I thought that I should use regular wrapping paper, but then I realized I wanted to do something more interesting... I decided to use my Handibot to make a case for them. I started off drawing the box I had in mind using Sketchup: After I got the design down, I sent it over to VCarve ...

Looks like Trimble bought a really neat company!
It's being reported that Trimble, the company that owns Sketchup bought Frank Gehry's technology firm.  “Frank Owen Gehry, CC is a Canadian-American Pritzker Prize–winning architect based in Los Angeles. A number of his buildings, including his private residence, have become world renowned tourist attractions.” — Wikipedia Frank Gehry This should be interesting for Trimble's building technology arm. Even more interes...
