Check out my piece on PhotoPlus 2014:
With PhotoPlus just a few short blocks from B&H, I was lucky enough to get out of the office and spend a few hours walking the exhibition floor. As always, I found a multitude of exciting products. Here are a few that I found to be interesting.

Check out my hands-on review of the new Nikon D4S:
From the moment I took the D4S out of the box, there was one word to describe how I felt: envious. There’s nothing like opening a box and taking a brand-new camera out for the first time, especially when it’s Nikon’s new flagship D4S. This camera is a beast, in every way. It’s big, solid, and heavy duty, definitely an everyday workhorse, but it somehow manages to be all of those things without feeling too heavy.

Mike Olbinski went from photographing lightning in his backyard with a point-and-shoot camera to being a professional storm photographer—in a flash. His time-lapse storm videos have gone viral in a big way; one of them even made an appearance in a major motion picture. I spoke to Olbinski to find out how he does it.

Check out this awesome video of Garry Winogrand doin' his thing on the street. from 1982: http://fstoppers.com/behind-the-scenes-garry-winogrand-at-work-on-the-street
Garry Winogrand is considered by some to be one of the top American photographers of his, or any generation. His books “The Animals” and “Public Relations” are classics, and the number of rolls of film he took over his short life are staggering. When he died he left behind...

Huge news. The next #cjLIVE   is here - and it's a doozie!

Justin Simien, director of +Dear White People  (the movie that's all the rage & in theaters now.) You will love what we're going to discuss --> http://blog.chasejarvis.com/blog/2014/12/how-to-overcome-no-and-beat-the-system-dear-white-people-justin-simien-on-cjlive/

Years ago as an up & coming photographer, I got so damn sick of hearing NO, sick of hearing what I had to BE and what my work had to LOOK LIKE in order to “make it”. Now years later and after some modest success, I…actually, wait, who am I kidding…that banter from the world never really stops, regardless of success or achievement. So the question I started asking myself some time ago WASN’T “how can I avoid those toxic ideas” – but rather “how to can I use those toxic ideas, the uncertainty they create, or even my own identity crisis as fuel for my biggest goals + aspirations”? How can I beat the system?

ENTER: Film director, writer, and the artist that everyone in Hollywood/the film scene is talking about right now…my newest hero, Justin Simien. More than anyone I know personally, Justin has centered his emerging career around overcoming the “you can’t do this / make this / be this” and around telling stories about the human condition–HIS condition. And he’s parlayed those efforts from a successful IndieGoGo campaign, to nabbing the Special Jury Award at Sundance, and now a nationwide theatrical release of his amazing (and controversial film) Dear White People — that is IN THEATERS RIGHT NOW (ah-ma-zing trailer and more details on my blog at the link below…)

Check out my new post on B&H's blog about +Chris Buck  and his Instagram photos

http://blogd7.bhphotovideo.com/explora/photography/features/thoughts-instagram-mind-chris-buck
Chris Buck is a photographer known mostly for his portraiture, in which he brings a unique and distinctive style to each of his images, and unsurprisingly, he’s brought this sense of invention to Instagram. Buck was kind enough to share his thoughts with us on what he once referred to as a “mix of photos of lunch, ironic landscapes, and Holga-filtered observations of everyday life.”

We all know that it’s not the gear that takes the photo, but rather the photographer, however when we get a chance to peek into Chase Jarvis’ bag, I can’t help but get excited. Jarvis is probably the photographer with the most successful social media presence out there. Between...
