Niantic is a hilarious example of what happens when a company who's out of touch with reality, gets a rousing success with an app that required you to use your Gmail account, crashed all the time and still had a huge audience base to immediately shoot themselves in the foot by taking away any sort of tracking methods and then banning third party sites that helped people play the game.

Good job Niantic.

So this has been a heated topic. One of my favorite animes of all time is being made into a live action film with Scarlett Johansson playing Motoko Kusanagi.

People are upset because they're claiming whitewashing. While I can understand the merits of these arguments I have a few counter arguments.

1.) Scarlett Johansson is an A lister right now and is coming off of a particularly hot streak as female sci-fi action hero (Iron Man 2, Under the Skin, Her, Captain America, Avengers). For an obscure industry like anime to make a breakthrough with a mainstream popular actress like Johansson, there are few other actresses who fit the bill in terms of mainstream perception.

I'm all about casting an actor to the role that best fits them and to my mind, choosing someone's ethnic background vs anything else seems hugely misguided.

2.) Everyone's upset that Hollywood isn't giving Asian actors more roles and while this is true, this level of superficial racial preferences for characters whose racial identity isn't at all related to what make these characters great in the first place is getting tiresome. Are you going to start protesting Korean actors who take on Chinese or Japanese roles? What about Korean actors from Seoul, playing a character who's from Busan?

It seems like a weird double standard because it's not like people did background checks on Mel Gibson to ensure a true Scotsman was playing William Wallace, whose character by the way pivots around his ethnic background vs a cartoon character.

3.) Live action remakes of animes generally suck anyway so the silver lining here is we're not going to be ruining any new, upcoming Asian actor's career by dumping them in this movie.

Fair enough. I mean we stole Power Rangers and Pokemon from them, so might as well

So despite this being Vox, they make an interesting argument about where the key to republican ideologies lie: nationalism
Remember "freedom fries" and the farm bill? It was all about the populist nationalism.

I mean, I'm a fan, but this just further proves to me that Nintendo isn't interested in coming up with anything new,
Adding to a long list of pop culture collaborations, which has yielded fare like Star Wars- and Disney-themed kicks, Vans is now working with Nintendo on a new line of branded sneakers featuring characters and power-ups from classic 8-bit NES games, including Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong, and even Duck Hunt.

Izumi is a total "hole-in-the-wall" restaurant. Considering its location, you would never guess it has some of the best sushi on the east side. I would HIGHLY recommend it if you're craving a taste of Japan.

As mentioned before, it can get cramped when busy and customer service wasn't anything too special but the food was delicious. I can't remember which salad I got but that was one of the first times I got filled up on salad. Great flavors

Thai Kitchen is great if you're in the area and need lots of food. In terms of Thai food, it's nothing special and I almost always get it to go. My three staples: Curry, Phad Thai, and Swimming Rama are okay there.
