I just got back from a few days in Tulum, Mexico (an hour and a half south of Cancun). My friends rented a villa (Los Arcos) on the beach, and it was pretty spectacular. We lazed on the beach during the day, and went out for excellent food at night.

One thing I didn't get a picture of was swimming at the Grand Cenote. There is apparently a vast underground river in caverns under the coast of Mexico and the cenotes are sinkholes where you can access those caverns. My friends did a cave dive where they dropped into a surface lake and then went through a tunnel for 45 minutes. I was content in our experience of swimming around in a little lagoon in super fresh, clean water that connected to the larger system underwater (we saw some scuba divers submerge to go check it out).

I'm still not sure beach vacations are for me, but it was good to try.
