Wanted to get some pictures of the new blooms on the property, but got solid rain all weekend. Perfect weather to curl up with Treasure on the couch and read the March book! During the Reign of the Queen of Persia sounds like an exotic history, but it refers instead to the matriarch of an Ohio farming clan. Her and her 5 daughters and 4 grand-daughters deal with love and loss amid the changing rural landscape of the 1950s. The book is narrated from the grand-daughters perspective, as they closely study their elders for clues on how to navigate in an unforgiving male-dominated world. Similar emotional territory to the film Terms of Endearment, but if anything, even bleaker.
