There are a dozen-plus recommendations for avoiding tainted cantaloupes. How about we build a food safety system that actually works?

Jennifer Ouellette originally shared:

"Love this Guardian article on the crucial difference between science and religions -- which is also why I try not to use the word "believe" when talking about science. Unlike religion, science is not a question of faith, but of evidence. When the evidence gets strong enough to overturn established principles, science changes its mind. http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/blog/2011/sep/28/faster-than-light-science-religion?CMP=twt_gu

"One of the things that appeals to me about science is that, unlike religion, science is not dogmatic. It does not say: "This is the way things are, and it can be no other way." Instead it says something like: "Based on the evidence we have so far, this is how things probably are; if clear and solid evidence is discovered that shows this is not how things are, then we will need to change our minds."

Science can seem rather weak in comparison to the certainties religion offers. But it is this very "weakness", this refusal to issue absolute statements of truth, that allows science to progress, and to come up with increasingly better ways of explaining the world."

Sorry, +Matthew Wolfe. It's not Quik, but it'll have to do.
[Photograph: Rosco Weber] To be perfectly honest, I enjoy this syrup best with only 5 ounces of brown sugar. The lower sugar version makes a deep, rich, sophisticated chocolate syrup. But not "Hershey...

Here is a video someone made of a cable-stay pedestrian bridge I helped design. The link was from an article that +Edward Horgan posted defending MPLS' status as Biketown, USA:

Cool bridge, it's neat to see projects like this come into form, especially from the design table.

I'm not sure how much interest people outside of the upper-midwest will take in this documentary, but since I grew up in the heart of supper-club Wisconsin it looks like a hoot. +Drew Lyman might recognize the freeze frame before the video starts since we drove past it every time we commuted back and forth from college.

I concur, although I wish the non-Minnesotan analysts would include some of the other Juicy Lucy hot-spots in their comparisons: Blue Door Pub and The Nook, to name a couple.

#30 is a personal favorite: A blessedly short swimsuit season. Bring on the bulky sweaters! Although we may gripe about the cold, it does make it easier to pull off those buffet-pants and hit that line one more time.

Warning! Recent studies have shown that 100% of households that find long-lost headlamps will subsequently experience a middle-of-the-night power outage.

Margin of error could not be calculated because my solar cell calculator won't work under LED headlamps.
