"An Economist item that offers an even harsher judgment. Eg, 'Translated into economese, Google has failed to consider the Lucas Critique: adoption behaviour for newly offered services will change in response to Google's observed penchant for cancelling beloved products....'"

"In fact, the short life and sad death of Google Reader tells a familiar story of how Google swept into a crowded field, killed off almost all credible competition with a free product, and then arbitrarily killed that product when it no longer had a use for it."

"When it comes to discovering and consuming content online, I divide people into two groups: those who go to popular websites to get their content, and the people who use Google Reader. Now that Google is killing its Reader...the popular theory seems to be that people will move on to another RSS reader, and life will go on as usual. I'm not that optimistic."

Here's why RSS can't fill the Google Reader void: http://on.mash.to/16xVUCs
