With the Mustang celebrating its 50th anniversary this week, I thought what would be more appropriate for #FourWheeledFriday than the “five-o” emblem found on the side of one of the cars owned by!

I know I’m getting an early jump on #FourWheeledFriday, but as I’m getting ready to head out of town and back into Washington D.C. I’ll be absent over the next few days. In the meantime, share those automotive photos as much as you want. It’ll give me more to check out as time allows. Since this is the Mustang’s anniversary weekend feel free to share more shots of this American icon, as it totally fits this weekend perfectly! ;)

Make sure to tag your post with +Four Wheeled Friday and mention your curators which are:

Early Morning at the Tidal Basin

The Cherry Blossoms in Washington D.C. peaked this past weekend, and I spent the weekend there trying to get some photographs of them. This photo was made early Saturday morning, about 30 minutes prior to sunrise. It was a little cool, and you had to arrive really early to stake out a claim amongst the numerous photographers. I was there about 5:30am, with sunrise expected to occur at 6:37am. However, the early morning rise was well worth it.

Due to all the cooler weather, the blossoms peaked late this year, as this was the last week of the Cherry Blossom Festival. I’m headed back to Washington D.C. tomorrow to try and photograph some more of the sights that haven’t managed to get yet.

I’m really enjoying the combination of my 5D Mark III and the 17-40mm f/4L USM when compared to the 40D I was using last year in D.C. For landscape shots, full frame really shines!

Scarlet Macaw

I ran across this Scarlet Macaw close to the staging area for the Lazy 5 Ranch Wagon tour. One of the most colorful birds you’ll ever run across, however since it is native to the tropical rain forests you won’t often encounter one in the states!

Open Wide

The business end of a Russian MiG fighter jet captured at the Smithsonian Udvar-Hazy Hanger just outside of Washignton D.C.

I thought this would be an appropriate shot for today, given the fact that this Friday I’m headed back to Washington D.C. for the first of two back-to-back weekends there. I’m hoping to bring back some great photos again, which shouldn’t be hard since it is such a photogenic city.

This is my attempt to supercharge #FourWheeledFriday this week, by a monochrome photograph of the front of a Whipplecharged Mustang. More horsepower is a beautiful thing, and the instant torque offered by this bad boy sitting on top of the engine is certainly no exception!

Don’t forget that it is #FourWheeledFriday all day, and you don’t have to be supercharged to play along! So be sure to share your shots with us. Make sure to tag your post with +Four Wheeled Friday and mention your curators which are:

The Wild West

…well not actually, just rural North Carolina. However, this Barbary Sheep skull lying alongside a cactus plant evokes enough of the western flavor I can almost see the tumbleweeds in the wind.

Blending In

It’s amazing how well animals can blend into their surroundings. A perfect example would be this pair of deer I saw while touring the Lazy 5 Ranch. Resting in the dead leaves, and holding perfectly still, one could easily overlook them amongst the rest of the forest.

IT by day, photographer and Ford Mustang enthusiast by night.

I started my journey into the IT industry around 1981 at the age of 11 with not one, but two TI-99/4A’s and a couple of cassette recorders for storage. Interesting enough, not that it mattered as much to me at the time, the TI-99/4A was the first 16-bit personal computer. Powerful for its time, I still managed to push it to its memory limits, programming in BASIC and creating a few programs that suited my needs at the time.

I’m the Information Technology Manager at Davidson Water Inc., a private non-profit water utility that serves parts of four counties in N.C. While my main job is maintaining the IT infrastructure, I tend to wear several hats involving water modeling, radio telemetry, and other tech related items that may pop up from day to day.

I’m also an avid Ford Mustang enthusiast, having kept at least one Mustang in my garage since 1989. The list of Mustangs that have passed through my garage are:

  • 1965 V6 Mustang Coupe
  • 1989 Mustang LX 5.0
  • 2000 V6 Mustang Coupe
  • 2000 V6 Mustang Convertible
  • 2000 Mustang GT Convertible
  • 2004 V6 Mustang Coupe
  • 2006 Mustang GT Convertible
Currently I still have the following:
  • 1989 Mustang LX 5.0
  • 2006 Mustang GT Convertible
My 2006 GT Convertible is primarily a show car, although it still gets driven quite a bit. It has won numerous car show awards, including Best of Show at a large annual event in Burlington, NC, and Best 05-09 at Mustang Week in 2010 and 2012. Mustang Week, hosted in Myrtle Beach SC, is one of the largest annual Mustang events on the east coast.

I enjoy photography, both traditional photography as well as HDR/Tone Mapped images. I generally shoot in raw (Canon .cr2), and then process the raw files with Lightroom 4. Depending upon what I'm after I may also use Photomatix Pro or Corel Paint Shop Pro X4.

While a lot of my images focus on automotive themes, since I participate in a lot of car shows, there's way more out there to photograph than cars! So you'll find a mix of subjects in my photographs. I'm also a curator for the Four Wheeled Friday Theme and Community.
