Here is the Big List of How To Find Me On Places Not G+

This post will be updated as I remember more places to find me. The links are in no particular order.

I also try to share different content in different places (because I don't want to bore people with the same content over and over and over again). There are a few exceptions (my Tumblr feeds my Twitter, for example).

Step 1) Do a search for 'Gamethyme.' Odds are very good that any results you find will me.
- https://gamethyme.livejournal.com

Step 2) If you can't find a 'Gamethyme,' search for my name. This is less-likely to easily get what you want, though, because my first and last names are both exceedingly common. In which case, search for my name and look at my userpic. It'll usually be the one you see here, but sometimes it'll be a pic from my wedding (see image below). There are a few other userpics I've used in the past, though, too.

Step 3) Ask me. There are a few oddballs here and there where, for one reason or another, the other two options won't work.

Step 4) If you follow me and I don't respond immediately, that's normal. I'm not an auto-follower most of the time and want to make sure I know who you are before I follow you, because I hate figuring out how to unfollow people.

Ugh.

I browsed Facebook today, and the new auto-playing videos with sound are now here.

One more reason to be upset at the loss of Plus.

I have to admit: This has raised roughly double what I'd expected it to raise.

Remember a year or so ago when I snarked the DigiFILM(TM) camera by Yashica?

No? A few of you - +Alan De Smet especially - predicted mediocrity at best.

It's out, now. And it's apparently bad. So our collective concerns were correct.

G+ Alternatives summarized:

Twitter - Posts are very short and are either 100% Private or 100% public. Threading exists for longer posts, but they're annoying to read and occasionally break for no reason. No italics, bold, strikethrough, etc. is possible. Sharing images, links, etc. is possible. Communities don't exist. Posts can be deleted, but not edited after-the-fact. Unique feature: Refusal to effectively crack down on hate speech and nazis. 100% free with no paid tier. Ad-supported.

Mastodon - Like a more verbose Twitter, only with multiple "instances" that talk to each other - it'd be as if I created T2 and Twitter followers could follow T2 followers (and vice versa). A bit confusing at first, but it works. So far as I can tell, it's 100% free, and is also commercial-free.

Gab - Twitter for Nazis and loons. Don't even bother looking, it's a fucking cesspit. Or, alternatively, have a look if you really want to lose all faith in humanity. Free, but there is at least one paid tier available (unless they are between payment processors again).

LiveJournal - Blogging tool from forever ago. Can create crazy-long posts, with privacy levels set per post. Followers can be assigned access to a variety of filters. Communities exist. Will always have a special place in my heart because this is where I met my wife. Currently owned by Russians with a TOS that is very unfriendly to LGBT folks and communities. Unique feature: Multiple user icons, which can be chosen per post. Ad-supported with paid tiers available.

Dreamwidth - Almost exactly like LiveJournal (it uses the same software), but without the Russian issue. Experienced a bit of a surge two years ago when LJ changed its TOS and the LGBT communities jumped ship. Still not hugely busy. Free with paid tiers available.

Diaspora - Basically LJ without communities. Posts can be public, private, or assigned to an "aspect" (it's a filter). Much like Mastodon, there are multiple federated instances. Pluspora is the instance of choice for G+ refugees, so far as I can tell. Uses the same markup language as G+. Free with no paid tiers that I'm aware of.

MeWe - Like LJ without filters or public posting. Community posts are also restricted to community members. Apparently public posts are coming, but no ETA has been given. Owner is a huge free speech guy, which means there are a fair number of alt-right there, too. But the owner hasn't actively sought out the nazi community like Gab has. This company is a spin-off of another (now gone) social media network called 'sgrouples,' which seems to have been more fully-featured than MeWe is. No idea why it's gone, but it makes me nervous bout the long-term future of MeWe. Unique feature: Chat. Every community has a chat window, and every one of your contacts has a chat as well. Free, with (apparently) paid features either coming or available now.

Facebook - It's where your relatives who can't find the power button on most electronics live. This is what G+ was designed to be better than. What you see is decided 100% by an algorithm designed to squeeze money out of folks whose income depends on being seen, so you'll probably miss important posts from friends and family. Their popularity has also made them a major target of hackers, and there have been numerous data breaches in the not-too-distant past. So it's free to use for most users, but it's ad-supported and you have to go to Facebook.

Today is Nefertari's first birthday.

Hard to believe she's been part of the family for just over six months, now.

A lot of people are already fleeing G+, but I'm here until the bitter end.

I'll post occasionally on MeWe and Pluspora, so that I don't lose folks who've migrated there already, but if you want to keep up with the contents of my brain (and life), this is still the place to do it.

So I ordered (and received) this.

There's some good and some bad.

I didn't read it 100% in depth, so there may be some bad info. somewhere in there. It's TOS & film-era only (including the Jenolan, so I guess it covers the era between the beginning of Generations and TNG).

The size comparisons in the back are pretty neat.
