Cooperatives tend to be better for the business' longevity, the community, and the worker-owners who run it. Check out our newest infographic highlighting some examples of the benefits and impact of cooperatives. It's a large graphic, so be sure to see the full version on our blog: http://community-wealth.org/content/benefits-and-impact-cooperatives

I dig this. One part (Dave Chappelle about how being placed on a pedestal interrupted his process) echoes something +Monica Byrne was just saying about making your idols your peers.

Studies like this always deserve quite a bit of skepticism. When building models, it's surprisingly easy to fit models to your predictions. The more variables you have, the easier it is to "verify" your findings, when really, you just have a complex model that basically any data could fit to. (Related, climate models work similarly and while I think we know enough to say greenhouse gases are a problem, I don't think we know enough about what kinds of problems they will cause.)

With my limited background in systems theory, I think it's fair to say every system they mention is vulnerable to disturbance. (climate, water, agriculture and energy). And increasingly so.

Tangent: It's interesting they use the word commoners in the study since utilizing resources as a commons might actually be able to rebuild some resilience. It's definitely not what we're doing, though there's a growing intellectual commons out there.
