Lawn Rebates….Good for California?
Thinking of tearing out your lawn?  Read this first!
In in effort to save water, many Californians are taking advantage of lawn removal rebates, where the water company will pay you $2-$4.00 per square foot, to remove lawn and replace with native plants or synthetic lawn.  Hundreds of Millions of dollars have already been given out.  If this program continues to succeed, what will be the net result to our environment?  Many have already replaced their lawns with gravel.  This is having a heating effect on Los Angeles.
Gravel as ground cover is just not the direction we should be taking for future landscaping in Los Angeles.  Gravel does nothing for soil enhancement.  Gravel heats up the soil.  Have you ever tried removing weeds from gravel?  Albeit, gravel is permeable, yet it it scores low on the aesthetic scale, when compared to native plants and lawns.   #lawnrebates   #losangeles   #california   #drought   #enviroscapela   #mikegarcia   #suatinability   #gravel

With El Niño-related storms providing much-needed rain, why let it go down the drain? Angelenos can tap into the age-old practice of rainwater harvesting, a process that saves both water and money.
Capturing and containing rainwater runoff helps conserve water, supports plant growth with water free of chemicals, replenishes groundwater levels and saves on water bills.the average home has about 1,000 square feet of roof, which can provide 625 gallons of water per inch of rain — that is, if it’s collected. One way is to take several rain barrels, connect them together for maximum storage and then locate them close to the garden plants you water the most.
“I’m a firm believer in recharging the groundwater and recycling as much water as possible. EnviroscapeLA is located in the the Los Angeles South Bay area and offers landscaping services in Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Torrance, Gardena,  Hermosa Beach, Palos Verdes, Hawthorne, and El Segundo.

El Niño is Here. Are you Prepared?
I live and work doing landscape construction in Southern California. California has just survived our worst drought in history. We really need the rain and have looked to the time when that precious water would fall from the sky. Many hope that the weather event called “El Niño” would come and save us. The news media outlets have done a great job at educating us and keeping us informed regarding El Nino. WE NEED THE RAIN.  Mike Garcia, Landscape Design Contractor, Sustainability Expert  & Certified Pond Builder. Rainwater Diversion
Can rainwater still be diverted to provide for ground water recharge and not end up in the ocean? The answer is a resounding “YES”. How? by means of installing underground “EcoRain” tanks” and diverting rainwater to these, which in turn, would create the means for ground water recharge. In this case, the front driveway is being replaced. Since the original driveway is coming our, why not dig a bit deeper and remove enough soil, so as to allow for the placement of the EcoRain tanks below the driveway? This is what we did! The system we are creating under the driveway will allow roof water to get diverted away from the street and back to ground water recharge, thus eliminating ocean contamination. This system is a sort of sand filter for the Earth. Building this system will result in a cleaner Earth environment. One of the biggest reasons people love Los Angeles is the beaches, yet, the beaches are dying due to excessive pollution. Our system contributes in a big way to healing the ocean. As everyone joins in to help, we can all make a difference for our planet and future generations. ‪#‎rainwaterdiversion‬ ‪#‎RainwaterHarvesting‬ ‪#‎drought‬ ‪#‎Waterconservation‬ ‪#environment‬ ‪#‎ecorain‬ ‪#‎driveway‬ ‪#‎EnviroscapeLA‬ ‪#‎LosAngeles‬ ‪#‎LowImpactDevelopment‬ ‪#‎BestManagementPractices‬ ‪#‎BMP‬ ‪#‎Sustainability‬ http://enviroscapela.com/rainwater-diversion/
One of Los Angeles’ biggest environmental challenges is rainwater. Lack of it and yet, when it falls, it carries all the pollution on our roofs and streets to the ocean. Modern society, with …
