SpaceDesk

After doing some digging, I came across a solution that I've wanted at my desktop for quite sometime. There's nothing like having a laptop just sit dormant while at my desk "gettin things done". I wanted to use my laptop as a true "3rd monitor" experience - so I could drag windows to it from my desktop, and use it as a true utility companion for things like Skype, SCP, whatever SSH windows I'm running, throw a VM at it, etc - without compromising the effectiveness of my primary productivity screens.

Enter, SpaceDesk. A powerful, modern (Win 8, Win 10), server/client software that allows me to outright "extend" my desktop to a true third monitor experience (or second monitor experience for those with gasp only one monitor for their desktop).

Installation was dead easy - the server (my desktop) require a reboot to finalize the installation of the "wireless display adapter" driver. I installed the client on my laptop and opened the app there, clicked "Settings" > "Connect", allowed it through the firewall software, and connected.

After a little manuevering on my desktop to adjust positioning and resolution of my new third screen - I'm off and running.

I've noticed only very low latency when typing and moving windows around. It's not as 100% as having a hard wired connection to a video card, I don't expect it to; but it's far from troublesome with these very minor issues. I wouldn't game on it - but I'm going to try anyway.

Another neat trick - I'm still using Mouse Without Borders for keyboard & mouse sharing between my laptop & desktop (http://goo.gl/aOm30) this allows me to still use a single set of input devices for things I have on my laptop, underneath my SpaceDesktop "monitor 3" (like email... that distracting plague of humanity).

Mix that up with Dexpot, and I have 4 virtual 3x desktops overkill workspace. This is almost as bad as my Chrome tab-creep... only better!

MUNITIO

My friend over at +MUNITIO launched a Kickstarter campaign to relaunch his company. I'm excited to see him back as the owner and controlling visionary commanding the helm of Munitio, and backed this project without hesitation.

If you're in the market for on-hear, over-ear, or in-ear headphones, these are the guys that make the best on the market.
MUNITIO is raising funds for PRO30: Wireless, Compact, High Fidelity, On-Ear Headphones on Kickstarter! On-ear headphones built for mobile lifestyles with durable construction, efficient engineering and wireless connectivity.

Mouse without Borders

After using Synergy for as long as I can remember (roughly 10+ years) - I've tried something new for sharing my keyboard/mouse to my "utility" screen laptop... and it's remarkably better than Synergy - for Windows, by Microsoft. It took a software bug in the latest version of Synergy to get me to seek out an alternative.

Added bonus, MwB allows you to drag files from one machine to another seamlessly, much like that Mac one, I think it's called "teleport". Synergy didn't allow that; to my knowledge.

Good upgrade. Free too. Neat
Mouse without Borders is a product that makes you the captain of your computer fleet by allowing you to control up to four computers from a single mouse and keyboard. This means that with Mouse without Borders you can copy text or drag and drop files across computers.

I like the movement in the photo.  Nice job!

You know I teach politics so I had fun with this one.  This is a nice perception of our city. The lights in the forefront invite the eye to notice the clarity and sharpness of things.  Such a lie about our city:)  The "leaning" of the taller buildings draw the eye  to the focus point, which few people do. The fleeting clouds give a hint of what is really going on, that not many have been paying attention to, until lately;  the decline of middle class in San Diego."

Fast staff, got to the point of getting the keys in my hand and on my way quickly. They do the standard upsell attempts, but aren't pushy with it at all - car was clean, they picked me up on time, and were friendly getting me out the door when I returned.

Reminiscent of childhood Italian haunts with my folks, Di Vita's is spot on with "simply damn good Italian food" style and dishes. Home cooked, served quick, atop a red and white checkered table cloth, under some random beer lamp... this place is so full of winning. If you don't need some guy rockin a white towel over his sleeve to serve you a calzone, this is the place.

Well rounded, good experience. Food was good, service was attentive, atmosphere was great. Would have 5 starred if the tables were a bit bigger.

Great place for dinner or lunch. The service is attentive, not pretentious, and the place is chill. If you're a fan of steak, they make some darn good cow. For those in West LA (Brentwood / Westwood) they deliver too.
