A new and very detailed article from our colleague Jun Nakamuro. The words we use to describe Lean concepts has a big effect on how we understand them. In the case of concepts that we created in Japan, it can be hard translate the original intent. Jun does a good job of clarifying some some things that might be missed from the original Japanese language.

Deming doesn’t hesitates and responds emphatically, 'Of course we could. Everyone knows that we can do it.' I would add that the same is true of any country in the world. After all, Japanese success was not just the result of internal cultural factors. They looked to the rest of the world to see what worked, and they made it their own."
