The Introduction of Hryvnia (UAH).
When Ukraine became Independent in 1991, the country had to establish the new currency as soon as possible. Thus, the so-called kuponokarbovantsy, low-budget banknotes of the transient period were introduced to substitute the Soviet money.
However, the first years of independence were marked by the uncontrollable inflation when the rate of kuponokarbovantsy dropped dramatically against foreign hard currencies.
While the first kuponokarbovantsy had the banknotes of 1 to 100 karbovantsy, soon one, two and five hundred thousand and even a million paper money appeared. There was no enough space on price tag to print all the zeroes.
Yet, by 1996 the inflation had slowed down and was followed by a financial reform in Ukraine.
The new national currency was called Hryvnia as was the silver circulating medium in Kyivan Rus.
The exchange rate for kuponokarbovantsy to Hryvnia was 100 000 to 1.
Thus, the low-income population of Ukraine lost their ill-fitting title of millionaires. smile emoticon
Nowadays currency exchange rates are:
1 USD = 24,25 UAH
1 Euro = 26,5 UAH

Enjoy Ukraine!
Let's talk about Kyiv.
Kyiv  is nice, affordable, safe and fantastic city!

Kyiv has 2 international airports (IEV and KBP) with direct flights to over 30 European and other international destinations, 1 direct flight from the US.
The city is also connected by the direct bus routes to many European cities.

If you compare prices between European capitals, you will realize that Kyiv (and actually the whole Ukraine) is obscenely cheap...

Out country is situated in the heart of Europe, but Europe is not that cheap and this is our benefit.

There are plenty of hotels that can be booked in Kyiv and the prices for every budget even for low budget travelers.

Restaurants and cafes prices in Kyiv are one of the lowest in Europe.
You can't safe on your own emotions, but in Kyiv you will not have to do it!

In addition to the lowest prices for accommodation and food, Kyiv is one of the greenest cities in Europe: landscape alleys, cozy parks for walking, where every area is not similar to the previous one.

Kyiv will meet you with comfort and hospitality!

P.S. By Kyiv city state adiministration - Kyiv safe and nice project.
