Hi, my name is Emily Atteberry and I’m a journalist. This fall, I am an editorial intern at USA TODAY headquarters in McLean, Virginia, and in my senior year at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. This spring, I studied abroad in Seville, Spain. My work has been regularly published by USA TODAY, Patch, TCU 360 and the Cape Cod Times.

Here's the deal. If, when I take a bite of a cupcake, an entire outer ring of the frosting crumbles off the cupcake, something is wrong. Because the icing is 99.9% powdered sugar, it is very flaky and crumbly and dry. It is disgustingly sweet---and trust me, I like my sweets. It absolutely RUINS the cupcake. Seriously. I promise you--you won't like the icing. The cake is, indeed, good. I wiped all that frosting off my cupcake....but if you're paying 3.50 for a cupcake or whatever ridiculousness, then the frosting better be damn good. Just don't do it. The sugar cookies are alright, but honestly, go check out the Cupcake Cottage. J Rae's is all about the cute veneer.
