My friend wanted to test drive a Tesla, and she invited me along. I didn't dare drive one because I know I will fall in love and become slightly obsessed with owning one. She chose to drive the P85D, which did not disappoint in the least. Insane mode is insane. 0-60 in under 4 seconds is a bit ridiculous, and gives a true whiplash potential for anyone in the passenger seat not anticipating the acceleration.
Wow! What an amazing car. The engineering is superb. It is comfortable, quiet, fast, and handles amazingly well. It feels like a small agile car even though it is technically huge and heavy. There is no body lean in the turns, so it literally feels like you are in a race car.
The operating system is Linux based, and the updates come wirelessly via their 3G satellite network. Each car has an identity on their system, so they know when software is being updated, and can detect intrusion immediately. The only disappointment I saw was a 3 band equalizer for the car stereo system. 3 Bands? Really? :P
The experience ended up being one of the best of my life. So fun!!!
