We looked at the behavior of individual players in prolonged game sessions and isolated a performance deterioration effect. Longer gaming sessions correlate with diminished performance over their course, yet this effect is mitigated by players' experience.

The paper comes out at a very timely moment, with the WHO classifying gaming addiction as a mental disorder just two days ago. I think that our results are pretty impactful in that they highlight in a quantitative and data-driven way what is the short- and long-term impact of prolonged gaming sessions, and show that not all players are subject to performance declines to the same extent: novices suffer a lot more than experienced players.

Hopefully, these insights will be accounted for and incorporated into future policies and guidelines!

Great job everyone: Anna, Yilei, Alessandro, and Kristina!
