As any of you who have experienced this, probably at work, will know, this costs money-a lot of money. We are also taking the opportunity to revamp the website to make it more user-friendly and mobile ready. Again-this costs money as each screen has to be torn apart and rebuilt. We have to move forward-we can't go backwards. We need your support to continue to serve the horse owners of the world and to educate people on how to prevent horse theft. We know we are hitting you hard-we would not be asking so much if we didn't have to. Everything helps. Thank you so much. http://www. netposse.com/donate
There's an old joke that goes something like this:
You see 3 men riding in a pickup truck. How can you tell which one is the cowboy?
Answer: The one sitting in the middle. He doesn't have to drive and he doesn't have to get out to open the gate.
Is he lazy or just efficient?
I went backpacking. Once. Talk about a miserable experience. You can't enjoy the scenery because you're too busy watching where you put your feet. The backpack gets progressively heavier the further you hike. By the time you get to camp you're so tired all you want to do is sit. Any ol' patch of dirt will do. Your feet hurt. Your body aches. And then you notice how little territory you've actually covered compared to what you're used to doing on horseback. And this is supposed to be fun?
Sometimes we run across joggers and bikers on the trail. While they're busy being the poster child for a Nike commercial I'm eating lunch in the saddle. Do they make me feel lazy? Yes they do....for about 2 seconds.
I am not afraid of sweat. I will stack a ton of hay without complaint. I am not afraid to work. I can prep and load a truck for a pack trip at dizzying speed, make dinner for the whole family, answer several phone calls, pay the bills and still get the laundry done! I am not afraid to pull long hours. I will willingly walk a colicky horse into the wee hours of the night if that's what it takes.
Am I lazy? Terribly. Am I efficient? You can bet your spurs on it.
Once I passed a backpacker high in the mountains. He was exhausted, hot, sweaty and miserable out in the middle of nowhere. You should have seen the look on his face when I reached back and handed him a beer. It was still cold. Yea. Who's the dummy now?
When you see a trail rider day dreaming in the saddle, unstructured, seemingly unschooled and way too relaxed; don't hold it against them. It's just the cowboy way!
