Quick question: I attended #EIJ14 and LOVED every minute, but as part of the Freelance community, I realized the group might be moving toward becoming a recognized chapter with SPJ. So, my question for the SPJ Digital Community concerns its future. I see Dana discussing elections.

Can I be a member of two communities and attached to a local chapter (currently student, but moving into pro chapter when I graduate in May). Also, if I wanted to be a board member in either community or in the pro chapter, would I have to choose?

If +Dana Neuts or +Alex Veeneman could help me understand SPJ's structure, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

I wrote about life lessons and relied heavily on what I learned from my grandfather, who lived to be 100 years old.
I learned most of what would be considered life lectures not from his words but from my Grandpa's actions. Here are 15 life lectures he showed us.

Marketing for musicians  -

In the music world, like every other aspect of modern life, big corporation residue has left its mark. Music business is all about the “branding.” When you consider the importance and impact of social media, the availability of specialized “profile” and showcase sites like Bandcamp and SoundCloud, video platforms like YouTube and Vimeo and the ability to self-distribute your music via the web, does a band today even need a website?

Dropping in to share the answers provided by some of the candidates for SPJ's board 2014-15. All candidates had a chance to respond to Region 3 Director Michael Koretzky, but not all did. I am running for student representative and I encourage all SPJ members to consider voting for me during the conference (you can vote online whether you're in Nashville or not).
Who you gonna vote for in next month's SPJ elections? If you don't know the candidates personally, it's hard to tell them apart. Read their campaign statements, and you'll learn they all want to "c...

I hate to gamble, but I don't see the interest-deferred medical credit cards as a gamble. I do the math to divide up the payments I have to make to avoid interest and let it roll. Read more about it in my first financial post for Debt.com
I've used a risky medical credit card before, and I don't regret it. Here's why.

Just because you have access to free platforms for social media, considering what a website and consolidation can do for your band is important to making it as a 'rock star' +Jack Varnell writes about this for +Target Audience Magazine

I read some of the reviews on Google when my 17-year-old cat was sick and my family had to make decisions about her care. I read about how the office sent a card after losing a pet, but I never expected it to be so well thought out and caring. I cried when it came. I've been using this office for as long as I've had pets in Georgia (about 10 years off and on) and I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else. Thank you to everyone at Towne Lake. I'm still missing my Remy, but she couldn't have been treated with more respect and compassion.

I expressly called ahead of time asking about bringing a car seat for my 10-month-old son on the bus. I was told I could choose to pay for his seat and bring a car seat. I was also told that they couldn't promise and updated bus, but 90 percent of the buses were "new" buses and would have the connections for the car seat. When my family arrived an hour and a half early no one said anything about the car seat. Not until the bus was leaving did the driver say we couldn't bring the seat on the bus because there were no attachments. We were then told by the lady in the station that Greyhound would reimburse us for the seat since one of us would have to hold my son on my lap. I filled out paperwork that was supposedly mailed to the corporate office and we left for our trip. At the first stop, Greyhound RESOLD the seat we paid for and we never received a refund or any response. Greyhound ripped off my family after lying to me on the phone to make a sale.
