I doubt I have many football fans on my friends list, but this FA decision sucks, people. It's wrong on a football level - and it's also really sexist, IMHO. Please sign this petition and voice your objection: http://www.petitionbuzz.com/petitions/doncasterbelles

What's happening?
Doncaster Belles have been relegated two games into the current season to make way for Man City.

Why does it suck?
The Belles aren't bottom of the league by any measure - they didn't come last, they don't have the lowest turn outs, they aren't the worst funded.

Why is it sexist, IMHO?
It seems like they've been relegated to make way for a big name from men's football. That's right - it's not enough that men's football dominates the headlines and the fields, that male England players get weekly salaries which are more than the entire women's England team earn from football in a year --- now the women's league has to match the men's. Well sod that. Donny are a great team, they're not placing top but they're scrappers, and do not deserve to be kicked out like this.

Shame on you FA.

When you enter the Belle Vue Bar beneath the Keepmoat  Stadium, on the wall to your left, you’ll find a huge picture of one of Doncaster’s most famous footballers in action for England. It is not o...

New knitting book review - want to knit socks without knitting in the round? This book shows you how.
One of the things I keep learning about knitting is that there's always more to learn about knitting. Knitting socks on straight needles seems like an enormous faff to me – and yet someone wrote a whole book about it! Why? I needed to know, so immediately requested a review copy.

OK, you need this book! And the film is amazing, too. Back me up +Monique van Beek. It's 99p in the Kindle Daily Deal, so act now.

Right, the book. It's the story of two Dutch sisters, twins and very close, whose lives take very different paths. After their parents die, the girls are separated and sent to relatives - one in Germany, one in the Netherlands. You think you know what's coming next? You don't. #excellentbook

Tell me what to read next! Comments on the blog, please, or I won't count them (and will get very confused). Right now the sole vote is for The World According to Garp...

I am a bad G+ type as have been out in the sunshine all week (true fact - I even have a proto-tan). But now it is raining so I'm going to spam your feed. Hope some of it is interesting.

First up: a review of a book which starts with the joys of spring.

PS: G+ has managed to pick the most inflammatory section to excerpt - I promise it makes more sense in context.
It's something like cannibalism, honestly. Vanished women. Like many of the other books I've read, both on this list and off, The Wind in the Willows is a boy's club. All the animals are male – even w...

OK, this is an odd one, but probably good - a free Neil Gaiman story (which is in Fragile Things, if you have that) but it's not free to download right now, it's free to pre-order and will be delivered on the 18th. And comes with a preview of his next book.

I really like this book - it's one with plenty to think about in it.
I love #82 I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith to bits – I remember reading it several times as a teenager, and coming back to it was a pleasure. The only downside was that I was reading my original p...

Have you read the blog Blue Milk, by the excellent Andi Fox? If not, you should. She's even inspired me to post about something other than alps and books.

So, I finally read Dodger by Terry Pratchett and I have A LOT of thoughts on this book. Anyone else read it? +Monique van Beek what did you think? You like that Dickens bloke, don't you? +Elle MissElle Camp did you like it? +David Ingram have you read it yet?
I'm late reading Dodger – it came out last September, and typically I finish a new Pratchett book within a couple days of getting my hands on a copy. Dodger has been sitting on my shelf for months, fo...
