Sometimes, you HAVE to be emotional, you HAVE to be confrontational, you HAVE to be REAL...
The system is messed up. Jimmy Williams says it at 3:10. "Money and politics is the root of all political evil. It is corruption at it's worst".
Feeling way under the weather as I feel right now, I have to say that I honestly hadn't given much thought to the fact that today was 9/11. But when I saw this picture, I really just wanted to cry.
On imgur, the title for the image was, as if spoken by France, "To our oldest and closest ally..."
Over time it seems to become so easy to forget things. It seems so easy to overlook moments, especially the hard ones, unless we had a deep, close connection to them. The moments I remember the most are often the really funny ones, or the really embarrassing ones, or the really, really sad ones, but even so, often, those moments lose their intensity over time.
One type, however, that I can never lose the intensity for are when the moment was amongst friends or a friend because of that bond, that relationship. It acts as a lens that always brings those moments into focus.
Like, for example, swapping a car's interior over night with my best friend ... I can NEVER forget the exhaustion, the sweat and strain and finding out in the morning that he was so tired he fell asleep in the shower...
I also remember the relief I felt when I had to go to the E.R and the one person who showed up was also my friend Sam. He's just one example out of just a few people with whom I've shared moments that I could never forget.
Is it possible that many, here and abroad, have such nonexistant relationships with this country, or their country, that they would just gloss over or forget the intensity of the loss and pain of 9/11?
Have we become so disconnected because of malcontent or anger that we would lose the importance of, not just what happened on 9/11, but on what came after? I've had times I've been unhappy with or even angry at my friend. Did that stop me from remembering our good AND bad times? No... Not at all...
It's easy in this internet culture to joke around about "'Murica" while looking down on all other countries as if we, in this country. are on some self supporting pedestal that raises us higher than any other country.
Here's some history...
France was the US's first ally.
We've had some spats with them, but they remain one of our best allies.
In fact, they helped us, we helped them and we wouldn't be a country as we are if it weren't for French support.
And ya know what?
France has NOT forgotten the tragedy of 9/11, while so many here, in the very country where it happened, have or have gone on and on with conspiracy nonsense.
Let us take this day to remember what was lost, who was lost and the unity, national pride and spirit of camaraderie that came, not just in this country, but from all the countries that offered themselves as help to us after that awful attack.
Lets not forget and lose the intensity of 9/11 and never ever forget to cherish ALL the moments in life, all the people in life, that MAKE us who we are.
