The Walled City || Dubrovnik Croatia

In 2011, Dubrovnik was one of my favorite Unesco world heritage cities that I visited while building my travel photography portfolio. Last October—exactly three years to the day since my last visit—I decided to swing by the walled city once again and I was delighted to see that it still holds the same breathtaking color and texture. It was also nice to wander around the streets of Kings Landing with fresh eyes now that I’m such a huge fan of Game of Thrones. ;)

Colors of Valensole || France

At sunrise, the colors of the lavender fields in Valensole France are absolutely spectacular. I really wish I could be there this season.

I’m delighted to announce that I’ll be teaching an all day Photography and Post-processing Workshop on June 26th in Chicago, during the Out of Chicago Photography Conference!

Details and signup: http://bit.ly/chicago-workshop

Spend the day with me, as I guide you through the traditional in-camera and digital post-processing techniques I use to capture and translate those Moments in Time into emotional visual scenes.

The conference is going to be awesome and if you’re interested in attending, there’s a code that will get you a HUGE $100 off the entry fee. Just type in “lastminuteplanner” during checkout.

Here are 15 reasons why you should never visit Japan. And of course by never, I really mean always. ;)

A huge thanks to everyone for attending the big Fujifilm events over the past two weeks and for making our visit to Singapore and Malaysia such an exceptional experience! It was such a pleasure to finally get to meet so many great people in person and I’m very inspired by the talented photography communities here. You guys are awesome!

I’d also like to thank the talented team at Fujifilm for making all of this possible. It was an honor to be a part of the events. :)

Now, it’s time to fly to Fstoppers HQ in Charleston, SC to wrap up our huge landscape photography education video. Let the post-processing marathon begin!

I’ve had a great time here in Chicago meeting so many wonderful people, teaching a Moments in Time workshop and speaking during the Out of Chicago Photography Conference. And of course, last night’s photo walk was awesome too! A huge thanks to everyone for making Naomi and I feel so welcome in the windy city!

A huge thanks to 500px for including one of my photos in this inspiring collection, "30 Beautiful Landscapes Draped in Fog." There are some incredible shots here!
Fog is a force of mystery and magic. It obscures some things to reveal others; and it can transform an already beautiful landscape into something out of a fairy tale.

Burning Sky || Iceland

I had a wild dream last night where I was driving around in Southern Iceland and the sky was burning around me in every direction in fiery red hues. My emotions seemed to mirror the sky as I frantically searched for the perfect place to stop to take a photo.

Each time I’d stop the car and pull over, the powerful colors would quickly start to fade from the sky. When I’d get back on the road and pick up some speed, the sky would burn again with powerful ferocity. After a few attempts with the same frustrating results, I realized that my mistake was focusing too much on the destination, while forgetting to simply stay on the path and enjoy the view.

Beyond The Vatican || Rome

On my last day in Rome after wrapping up our most recent Italy Photo Tour, my friend Gaia asked me if I ever get tired of visiting the same places over and over again. "As a photographer," she asked, "don’t you get bored with the same locations?"

This is something I’m asked fairly often and my answer was an honest one. I told her that I never get tired of visiting the same places because it gives me the opportunity to see things in a new way, and attempt to capture them with new eyes and a fresh style. It’s something that I always strive for—the ability to create something new and unique out of the familiar—to break mold, even if only by a small degree.

Prior to flying my DJI Phantom 3 over The Vatican in Rome, I had only been able to dream what this area would look like from above. Finally I was able to make that dream a reality. :)

Introduction

I’m a professional travel photographer, writer, public speaker, and educator who spends his life seeking out and capturing some of the most beautiful and inspiring destinations in the world. Location independent since March of 2012, my wife and I live a 100% mobile (global nomadic) lifestyle, perpetually traveling from country to country, continuously circling the globe. Since I began traveling full-time in 2009, I’ve had the pleasure of visiting more than 45 countries while flying well over one million miles.

Throughout this perpetual journey, I enjoy teaching the art of photography on my website www.blamethemonkey.com, while sharing my images and stories across various social media outlets. I also collaborate with many different sponsors, brands, and tourism boards, and lead Photography Tours and Post-processing Workshops worldwide. Feel free to drop me a line anytime and if I happen to be in a town near you, I’m always up for a good conversation and coffee.

Follow me on Instagram to keep up on my latest locations and projects. I’m also extremely active on Social Media with daily posts and consistent engagement on Facebook, Twitter, and of course Google+.

You can also view my complete Photography Portfolio.
