We all know the world is changing and the statistics show that more people are traveling now than every before. Over the past 10 years, I’ve seen it first hand as destinations have completely transformed due to the massive influx of tourism and crowds. And while it’s always nice to visit places off the normal tourism track, do you personally feel that we should stay away from the most crowded places, even if they happen to be the most beautiful?

The Road to El Chalten || Argentina

A huge thanks to everyone for the wonderful feedback about Photographing The World 4! It’s been available for just over a week now, and the first episode of the behind the scenes is also live on YouTube. In this season, we promise wild weather, epic locations, hilarious adventures, and of course, more moon boots!

This image is the result of lesson 9, where we dodge a bit of traffic to compose a shot down the road towards Fitz Roy Mountain and El Chalten. It combines 6 levels of focus stacking along with some perspective blending for edge-to-edge sharpness with dramatic leading lines from the road to the horizon. It’s was a really fun image to teach both in-the-field and in post-processing.

And in other news, Today I’m flying to Uzbekistan, followed by Dubai, Sharjah, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain, to give a series of workshops and presentations. I’ll be posting the exact schedule of events later this week.

Back in 2010, Flickr was the first online photography community that I joined, and throughout the years, it’s given me the ability to connect and engage with so many amazing photographers and friends. That’s why I was so excited when SmugMug acquired Flickr earlier this year. I knew that they would do their best to put the photography community first, and roll out new features that would help reinvigorate what we love about using Flickr. I know that this is just the first of many awesome updates to come!

I’m excited to announce that Photographing The World 4 has officially been released!

From the desert landscapes of the Southwestern United States to the unbelievable mountain ranges of Patagonia in Southern Chile and Argentina, I’m confident to say that this is the most comprehensive and beautifully filmed Landscape Photography Tutorial available today. And with 15 new lessons that span over 14 hours of educational content, it gave me the opportunity to teach all of my most advanced landscape photography techniques, both in the field and in post-processing.

From the bottom of my heart I want to thank everyone for continuing to support us over the years, and for inspiring us to keep pushing this series forward and creating new and unique content. Photographing The World has become an amazing community of people from all over the world, and I’m incredibly thankful to be a part of it. :)

Enchantment || San Marino

There are certain places in the world that can take your breath away and leave you speechless. In these moments, often times the only word you can manage to say is “wow,” as you experience the massive visual reward of a perfect moment in time.

For me, photography isn’t just something you see with your eyes, it’s something you also feel with your heart. And when so many things - the location, the weather, the light - all line up into a perfect harmonious moment, it’s a truly enchanting feeling, and it makes me feel blessed that part of my job is to seek out these moments and places.

This visit to San Marino was the perfect prelude to an incredible week at Photokina. And now, on my way to Los Angeles to teach during the Fujifilm Festival and I feel extremely energized after the awesome experiences of the past few weeks. A huge thanks to everyone who helped make Photokina so very special. :)

This is shot using the Fujifilm GFX 50s Mirrorless Medium Format Camera and the GF 32-64mm Lens. Being over 50 megapixels, I can’t wait to send this one to print!
