People who want to think of themselves as allies - If you are not willing to listen to criticism about your actions and opinions from the people you are trying to ally, YOU ARE A SHITTY ALLY. Ideally, you should be listening and also learning, but listening is the bare fricking minimum.

Just...don't. Yes, your silence would be better than that crap.

My Pinterest board for Blades has gotten big enough that it's about time to share it. Wish I could find more dark steampunk gadgets for the Load category!

This wasn't quite the guide I was looking for but it was still a good read. Surprised to see they didn't mention Frankenstein though!

This isn't exactly wuxia, but bear with me for a second.

My first RPG publishing project was The Blackwood Errantry Codex, a Savage Worlds setting that combines beguiling, Grimm's-style folklore and bold wuxia action. This morning I've released a hack of the setting for use with The Quiet Year, a mapmaking story game by Avery Alder.

The Errantry Codex has hundreds of pages to introduce players to the unique tones of folklore, wuxia, and how The Blackwood combines them. The Summer Greening is only 9 pages, so I included a quick primer about what wuxia is:

Wuxia is about risking your life and safety for the sake of your passions and ideals. Corruption is violent, and violence is the only way to displace it. The world of wuxia owes its existence to this cycle of violence. In wuxia stories, almost anything--conflict, mystery, diplomacy, romance--can be and often is resolved through combat. Crossed blades communicate more than words ever could.

It doesn't say much about the romantic elements of wuxia, but I at least tried to capture the melodramatic notes. Plus, the "Oracle" card-draw prompts leave room for romantic entanglements as you tell the story. Anyway, I'm curious to know what folks think of that description!
Now available on DriveThruRPG!

Once upon a time, the Spearwood Fellowship struck out from Denvorn Province to open the eastern wilds for settlement. Then the Elder King disappeared, the forest grew dark, and dreams of expansion crumbled. Now the Spearwood Fellowship trains to run through the treetops and to repel fearsome creatures with their flashing spears.

It is the first week of autumn. The Fellowship has less than a year before the next summer’s Greening, when the magic of the forest reaches its most malevolent heights. Will the Spearwood Fellowship overcome the trials of life in the Blackwood, or will they falter like the dreams of expansion from which they were born? We play to find out.

The Summer Greening is a hack of The Quiet Year, an RPG about community and cartography by +Avery Alder.

Feels good to get this out into the world after around 8 months of development. If you like The Quiet Year or The Blackwood, I think you'll like this hack too!

This game has been in the works for around 8 months now. Feels great to get it out into the world! My playtesters gave some wonderful feedback to help refine the game, and Avery was wonderful and gracious when it came to using her work.
