Flash is dying. In fact we know that by the end of 2020 it will be 6 feet under the ground. And to think that for the past 20 years no developer could imagine a world without it. HTML 5 now rules the world (thankfully) and Adobe, ambivalent about losing Flash, has already adapted to the ever changing technological landscape. What does that mean for you? Well, I’m glad you asked.

The experience of cause and effect is a very powerful teacher, one our brain is already pre-wired to learn from. Experiencing consequences for our actions gives rise to emotion, which not only catches our attention, but also increases our ability to retain the learning. Despite these advantages, allowing the learner to experience an actual ‘consequence’ for their choice in a scenario is often missing from scenario design.

With their simple utility, cork boards are an almost natural symbol of displaying and organizing information. As such, they make for a great skeuomorph in the context of eLearning. Learners can drag and drop elements and “pin” them in place to create a more physical and concrete experience.
