It's good to revisit his advice, even if his book Joyland was intolerable.

You may have come across this before, or read the book On Writing by Stephen King. This is always a good refresher. I’ve read the book twice, and will likely read it again in a couple years.

I hope you find his expert advice helpful.
Last week I challenged you to set a goal for yourself and set up consequences if you missed it. Did you do it? I hit my goal of writing 5,000 words. Thanks to my friend Nathan who invited me over t...

I bring you good, non-blog things from yon internet. Enjoy!
Naxuu's "Here’s a giant 800-track alt/indie-focused 90's playlist in chronological order" at Medium: …the playlist is split into three parts: 1990–1994, 1995–1996, and 1997–1999. They’re respectively around 300 tracks, 200 tracks, and 300 tracks, for a total of 800 tracks. The total running time is around 55 hours. I want to stress that it’s chronological on a micro level, with few exceptions. I love this very much...

When in a group of people, I often find myself caught up with watching how they move. It's an unconscious communication that's easy to lose myself in.

They created patterns and lines together in a secondary, unconscious exchange I watched through the lens for a long time.

I need this.

It's about time!
The design that could reduce food waste, and bring an end to that horrible gagging feeling when you inhale a nose full of sour milk.

Stuck #poem
It’s terribly sad to have all of the words in your mouth big ones plucky ones tiny pointed ones the ones that would make your broad grin appear shoulders soften only you can’t get them out no amount of coaxing will do they are stuck in your throat like hard candy It takes 16 months to get over someone. I told that lie to a girl the other day in the park. She looked so desperate. Like she needed a numeral. Something to tick away. ...

Getting to #BlogHer15 was a trip unto itself.
On the way to #BlogHer15, I was irritable. Aidan and I were halfway through our journey to New York, and our second flight was delayed. We were stuck in an airport between a frenetic gaggle of 10-year-old girls and a woman with perfume thick enough to taste. I had taken to writing passive-aggressive Facebook updates about airport etiquette. I was relieved when we finally boarded the plane, because I could get away from the migraine-i...

Hey, Regina. This is me looking at you.

Wow, deja vu.
If you frequent this website, you know the public financing of stadium construction is our bête noire—a massive, ongoing, inexplicable scandal that’s more likely than not to be taking money out of your and your community’s pockets as we speak. John Oliver’s takedown of stadium financing on Last Week Tonight hits many of our talking points, only he’s funny instead of shrill.

"Katie Mingle of the 99% Invisible podcast gets emails from listeners who complain about the quality of women’s voices on the program, and she’s not alone in a world where Fast Company calls vocal fry, a common speech habit regardless of gender, the “verbal tic of doom” for women. Never mind that the same habit is also common among men. Enough people have complained about the issue of women’s vocal habits on television and radio that it has even been written widely about in publications from Mental Floss to The Atlantic to The Washington Post. Women, apparently, have a tendency to perform their own voices wrong."

I had never stayed at executive suites like this — I've only used hotels before — and I will definitely be back. It felt like moving into a home away from home with the fully outfitted kitchen, walk-in closet, comfy beds, and washer/dryer. We shopped for groceries at the fantastic Sunterra Market downstairs, walked to a barbershop and local restaurants, and we actually stayed in more than we thought we would because the place was so cozy. Thanks so much the great stay, Roseman! I'm already making plans to come back.

I ate there for the first time this morning after being told repeatedly that their dim sum was fantastic, and it was no word of a lie. We ate until we couldn't move, it was all delicious, the service was good, and the prices were definitely affordable. I will be going back. A lot.
