This week's Five Star Mixtape great blog roundup is brought to you by southern blackness, the healing of old hurts, seeing yourself reflected in the world, the importance of working on online harrassment, disability and sexuality, and Roberto Bolaño: by Farisori (own work) [CC BY-SA 3.0], via Wikimedia Commons But every single damn thing matters! Only we don't realize. We just tell ourselves that art runs on one track and life,...

Day Thirty-Nine of ‪#‎365poems‬! Today I'm trying to channel Tallulah.
Tallulah Bankhead in The Cheat (George Abbott, 1931) To be the woman with a gun who pulled the trigger, sometimes. I want to be the one who did it, who sent that hard, sharp punctuation to stop a timeline. Periods, be bullets. I am writing one poem every day in 2016, and I am using the hashtag #365poems to document my progress.

Here are a bunch of things that caught my eye on the non-blog side of the internet this week!

#blog   #blogpost
1. With all the talk of simplification and decluttering over the last few years, it's nice to hear that my clutter might have surprising health benefits. 2. Susan Cain has started a new podcast, Quiet: The Power of Introverts with Susan Cain, and I'm always up for some time with my introverted brethren. 3. Sometimes, I think the bigger problem for women in society isn't those who abuse and oppress us but...

Day Thirty-Four of #365poems!
Hot tea scalds my mouth. I remember afternoons with thick, buttered bread. I am writing one poem every day in 2016, and I am using the hashtag #365poems to document my progress.

Day Forty of #365poems! It feels ridiculous that I'm 40 in already.
I had a bag full of cat's eye marbles, the kind we all had; mine were ages old and chipped, though, and they played wobbly, but it was no matter: I didn't play. I carried marbles in a Crown Royal bag just to hear the clack and chink inside purple flannel and think about my uncles 20 and 30 years before who rolled them up against their thumb knuckles so they could kick them out. I became the boy with leather-soled shoes and Brylcreem i...

I didn't have faith that I would be able to find my five gratitudes when today started, but I did in the end. Not so bad. #graceinsmallthings
This is Jen Wilson being a cutie while she works. 1. I got to have a working coffee with my friend Jen over the weekend when I was in her city, which we never get to do, and it was wonderful. 2. Life doesn't seem to be easing up at all, but tonight? Tonight I get to sleep long and hard. 3. My keyboard is delightfully clicky-clacky, and sometimes when I'm thinking I let my fingers tap around nonsensically ...

Day Thirty-Seven of #365poems! It's a love poem. Aw.
It is quite a thing to look left and see who tracks pace with you, who takes in time with you, extends a generous faith. I am often lost and would flee the bones that house me, but this one greets my need with kindness. This one's hands are there when mine are wanting and hold my place. I am writing one poem every day in 2016, and I am using the hashtag #365poems to document my progress.

Day Thirty-Six of
You stand in your underwear, the kitchen bulb's stark shadows dig hollows and lumps into your thighs while you take in the day's mess. Coffee grounds and guests' wine drippings on the dishwasher door satisfy an impulse to destroy, that 2 a.m. urge to run off solitary into the dark, to lose your life and find what can be found in a convenience store parking lot, on an empty baseball diamond, out in the road somewhere to see who stops. ...

I'm all caught up! Here's today's #365poems.
I'd love you wholly, pull you right up inside me, into the muck of me, the meat, into the wet dark and keep you safe and warm, cook you until you're unquestionably done, but that's not how this works. I require more of me than that, my muck and my meat, my wet dark: they are not here for you, never wholly, not even if I long to pull you subterranean. These are not yours. I am writing one poem every day in 2016, and I am using...

I had never stayed at executive suites like this — I've only used hotels before — and I will definitely be back. It felt like moving into a home away from home with the fully outfitted kitchen, walk-in closet, comfy beds, and washer/dryer. We shopped for groceries at the fantastic Sunterra Market downstairs, walked to a barbershop and local restaurants, and we actually stayed in more than we thought we would because the place was so cozy. Thanks so much the great stay, Roseman! I'm already making plans to come back.

I ate there for the first time this morning after being told repeatedly that their dim sum was fantastic, and it was no word of a lie. We ate until we couldn't move, it was all delicious, the service was good, and the prices were definitely affordable. I will be going back. A lot.
