Wow! Real disappointment! We are regular visitors to El Gaucho Seattle and Aqua, and we've visited Portland once, this was our second evening at Tacoma, left extremely dissatisfied. Were informed upon making resos that we would have to pay for a private room, as they were unable to accommodate us in the main dining room, to which we readily agreed. When we arrived (on time) we were made to wait, even though we were assured there was nothing wrong with the room and that it was ready. Dining room was only about 1/3 full when we sat. Service was slow for every course, waiter only did a check back once. Our meal was interrupted by the sommelier numerous times, though he never checked on how we were doing, nor did he seem to inform our waiter of our needs. This marks the first visit we've had to a store in this chain where our food request (chicken strips) was denied. Waiter said the captain vetoed it, not sure if it was ever presented to the line cooks. Had to leave the room to find a dining room attendant in order to box our extras and ask for a check. A captain came in with the customary fruit and cheese, and the check, but by then we were all dressed and standing waiting to leave. She awkwardly tried to set out dessert plates anyway, clearly not understanding the situation. Dining room was only 1/2 full when we left. To the team's credit, they did not charge us the room fee, not sure if it was to make up for lousy service, or just a symptom of it. In the future, we'll take the extra trip to town, or maybe try Bellevue (we usually do Daniel's Broiler in that neighborhood) for a change. Has to be better than Tacoma.

It's hard to explain how good this place is. The service is second to none, all the cuts of meat are tender, and a good whiskey & scotch menu too. In one word, incredible.

Hands down the best restaurant that I've been to yet. The food is amazing. Excellent service by the entire staff. Our waiter Scott was very knowledgeable about the menu items. Would definitely come back again.

It was a 5 start experience for sure; timing, service, atmosphere, it was all worth the money we paid, the food itself was excellent but it didn't make me think I wouldn't be able to get this dish elsewhere.

What a joke... bartender is a dick. Truffle soup is actually mushroom soup with probably synthetic truffle oil drizzled on top. The menu states it is made with truffles... BS. Bearnaise was runny. Slow, lazy service by the bartender. Good steak but don't trust the menu. I'm giving the food a poor grade solely on the fact that the menu lies.
