Many years ago I wrote a short called Implant!http://einarpetersen.com/doku.php?id=implant_scifi_novel
I was inspired by I believe among other things British politicians talking about putting ID chips in clothing etc. in order to track people.
The tracking concept had Big Brother written all over it, ah well it was British.
Anyway the story "Implant!" could likely do with a rewrite, an editor and a kick arse movie budget but it is in fact most relevant today, as you will find if you read on, also I invite you to take a glance at the story.
However what gets me to the keyboard today regarding the matter is a Finnish politician, Mäenranta who feels that tagging and tracking citizens is a viable option for preventing abuse state social benefits.
ISIS is thrown in for good measure as there is nothing like a terror group to stir up the waters, and mind you chips are not enough!
No no, bracelets too and if the bracelet is broken, payment of social welfare benefits to be immediately cut off. This guy seemingly does not just seem to have trust issues, he seemingly has a BB complex the size of a country to him.
It brings shivers down my spine to see this kind of thinking in the wake of the incredible privacy breaches intelligence services have been serving up, but, I guess I should expect nothing more from one embedded in the political establishment. Just sad to hear such thoughts come out of one of the Nordic countries.
I would maybe have expected such things from a dictatorship somewhere else on the globe, but ah well, I suppose we've been headed down that lane for quite some time now, just hope people get around to smell the coffee before it is too late.
There is an interesting article out there on this Finnish politicians thoughts that I'd like to encourage you to read to keep up on how these people think.http://www.metropolitan.fi/entry/finnish-politician-suggests-people-be-embedded-with-a-chip-to-prevent-misuse-of-social-welfare-benefits-abroad
Hoping people will realize freedom is a precious gift not to be taken for granted!
And if you agree with the above and feel interested in knowing more feel free to throw in a few cents for the editor, and possibly the author as well and I might just continue to highlight these kind of issues.
