The 2017 holiday shopping season has officially kicked off!

Do you know why it's called #BlackFriday?

A. Because of all the black eyes people get fighting over deals?

B. Because people start shopping before the sun's even up?

C. Because it represents companies turning a profit?

D. Because of all the traffic accidents and mayhem on this day?

The answer is both C and D. Black Friday is a term originally coined by the Philadelphia Police Department in the 1960s. They referred to it as "Black Friday" because of all the chaos surrounding that day. Because retailers didn't like the negative connotation, they put a spin on it and claimed that Black Friday represented profitability, as, in accounting, red means loss, and black means profit.
