+Lorandt Foelkel You can buy boxes/enclosures in China pre-marked with any marks you want. Sadly, most Chinese manufacturers don't have any respect for safety. My advise is try to buy stuff certified by a local (EU/USA/Australia/whatever) company you can held responsible.

+EEVblog I would be interesting in comparative disassembly of the faulty and non-faulty plugpack for the old LED lights. What is causing all that crap to bleed out of the particular unit? Thanks for the video, entertaining and informative as always! :-) Cheers

+TechnocraticBushman I cover mine with a plastic bag when I'm using my fog machine as it will set of the smoke detector. Once I'm finished messing with my laser projector or other lasers, I let the room clear and pull the string attached to the bag, which yanks it off the detector, putting it back into service. I do smoke or vape underneath it (its right above my computer) and that doesnt set it off. Have yet to see if blowing a cap up will trigger it.

+lasersbee if you couldn't figure out that my post means that I was too lazy to do actual research for a rhetorical question asked only to merely suggest that it it most likely cheaper to buy the same off the shelf parts and a heat sink, then I don't know what to tell you.

I clearly typed that I don't care to know which is why I was puzzled that you had to plus mention me and say that I didn't need to know. You are 100% correct i don't need to know. I have a professional career in electro mechanical engineering and been working with constant current power supplies and LED arrays long before they were ever mentioned on Dave's videos so I don't need to know that he finds it a good price but thanks for the direct link to where I assume he said so in the video.

+Magnamanification actually there is some physics behind what they are talking about. You would get better noise levels. However I'm not sure if my lab kit could detect the difference as depending on signal source he normal noise would swamp any differences made by this kit.

Not all semiconducturs are made out of silicon. In case of transistors and such they use other rare earths too (But yes, mostly silicon) -  I still think it's best to recycle as much as possible, even if its not valuable. But I was also referring to the compunds that are used in the led itself (gallium compunds I believe). And I suppose the circuit to drive the lamp is some type of buck converter, so they use metals like copper for coils, and maybe gold for contacts. The 90% They recycle could be anything, it could basically be only plastic and some glass, and most of the metals get thrown away.

+EEVblog All you have to do is plant some kind of pinhole camera somewhere and wait for them to open it... the worst vulnerability with these things is people, no matter how good your safe is.
