Thought for the year
Wikileaks' publication of Podesta emails is not interference in political process, this is the definition of political process. it is the media’s job to publish truth and opinion about what is occurring-- there cannot be free and informed election unless people are free to inform

Today marks President Obama’s last full day in office. On Friday at noon, Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts will swear in Donald Trump as the country’s 45th president. On Wednesday, in his last press conference as president, Obama defended his decision to commute the sentence of Army whistleblower Chelsea Manning, and condemned the Israeli occupation. He also warned Trump that he will not stay silent if he sees what he called the nation’s ...

During Wednesday’s press conference, President Obama warned that the expansion of Israeli settlements was making a two-state solution impossible. "I don’t see how this issue gets resolved in a way that maintains Israel as both Jewish and a democracy," Obama said, "because if you do not have two states, then, in some form or fashion, you are extending an occupation. Functionally, you end up having one state in which millions of people are disenfra...

Well before Russia’s military came to Bashar Assad’s aid in Syria, the Obama administration calculated that the Islamic State’s expansion in the region would force the Syrian president into negotiating with Washington, according to private comments Secretary of State John F. Kerry made last fall.

Have you ever contemplated the fact that humans are the only species on Earth that pays to live on the planet? This continues, despite the fact that there is presently more than enough resources to care for every citizen. As a matter of fact, enough food is produced around the world to feed 10 billion […]

Obama as bad as Trump
#obama #trump
Judging from how the mainstream media has characterized the legacy of Barack Obama so far, the outgoing president will be most remembered for his many rousing aspirational speeches and well-timed shows of emotion.

It is best for Wikileaks if Assange stays in Ecuador embassy in UK and not in US

We're shocked
WikiLeaks founder now says it's not good enough Manning will be released in May.

It isn't weaseling. He would turn himself in for clemency. Manning received a commuted sentence which is not the same (1,) and which will not be carried out in his own administration (2,) possibly allowing future interference. Assange would be a fool to turn himself in.

The flatpak security model – part 1: The basics https://blogs.gnome.org/alexl/2017/01/18/the-flatpak-security-model-part-1-the-basics/ "[…] First of all, a lot of people think of container technology like docker, rkt or systemd-nspawn when they think of linux sandboxing. However, #flatpak is fundamentally different to these in that it is unprivileged. […] Flatpak instead runs everything as the regular user. To do this it uses a project called bubblewrap […] The answer is that it uses unprivileged user namespaces. […] If user namespaces are disabled, bubblewrap can be built as a setuid helper instead. […] In order for the application to be able to write data anywhere we bind mount $HOME/.var/app/$APPID/ into the sandbox, but this is the only persistent writable location. […]"

Five years ago today the Internet went on strike to fight SOPA and PIPA, two anti-piracy bills. As part of the historic protests tech giants such as Google and Wikipedia stood by many smaller players in a massive "Internet blackout," which helped to defeat the bills. Since then, January 18 has become known online as "Internet Freedom Day."
